Black guy, Kelvin, nutter.  Was mental for michael jackson when we were kids and could proper dance when at the school discos, couldnt play football but thought he could.  Always nicking stuff and fighting, he wasnt a good fighter either strangely enough..  Also used to run around the school playground with his d1ck out when he wasnt getting enough attention.  God knows what was going on behind closed doors.  Died from ecstasy tablets aged 13 in 1991.

Another black guy, andrew, was playing football at lunchtime, decent player.  Was running for the ball and kind of collapsed as he was going.  Remember people laughing at him for falling over so pathetically, before they realised he wasnt getting up.  He was on a life support machine by the end of the night and they turned it off the next day.  Brain Haemmorhage, virtualy no chance of surviving, died 15yo in 1993.

RIP the pair.

when I lived in edinburgh there was a mixed race kid in our class, he had diabetes, anyway, one day they announced in school assembly he had died. the thing was, he always had special food for his school dinner that nobody else got, including a lot of fresh fruit; anyway, it was a pretty rough school in gorgie and the other kids used to nick his fruit so he didn't get what he should, while the geriatric dinner ladies turned a blind eye, possibly too scared to intervene, although too ignorant is probably closer... I always wondered how significant that was and always regretted not sticking up for him more  Sad

RIP James Rosie (aged 8)

Best mate's sister aged 10 road accident. nuff said.

I was off school for a day aged about 13 and next day asked if I'd missed anything, any fights or  bollockings etc... nothing.

Went through whole day, assembly and everything and walking out up the entrance from school, a lad said 'that was bad abut Mansley, wasn't it ?'.

I had no idea what he was on about, turned out the night before I was off, Ste Mansley had fallen out of a conker tree on the school grounds and died, I just missed the one day aftermath.

Badger,I sometimes look back at a lot of people i went to school with, and their behaviours, and wonder what went on behind closed doors.  Maybe didnt think so much at the time but looking back Cry a tricky one for teachers and social services etc but sometimes the signs are quite obvious that something isnt right.

When I was in primary school, a lad called Scott Devlin drowned in the River Irwell, which was opposite his house. I think he'd had a lucky escape in the river once before. We must have been seven or eight years old at the time. They planted a tree in front of the school in his memory. I remember it being tiny. Almost 30 years on, that tree is fúcking huge. How time flies.

Not really.
One of my mates was murdered when he was 19, we went to different senior schools.

Another mate was murdered when I was about 24/25

And my ex-best mate (who I disassociated from when he got into drugs when I was 30) was murdered when I was 38.

An associate, not a mate, was shot dead in  pub when I was 44.

And the baddest facker of the lot, who was odds-on for 20 years to get topped by another villain, dropped dead in the street last year with a heart attack.

400 in my senior school in east London (1963-67)

398 indigenous whites and

One Indian boy, Iftakhar Saraf - good cricketer.

One Chinese boy, Richard Lee - no idea what he was good at.

Girls outnumbered boys by 2:1

You should see the same school these days.

For starters, they are all known as 'grapes' because the uniform is now purple Laugh

I found out last week that the govt. pays £900 per pupil to a school, when the pupil registers for free school meals. And some schools say 'You should register, and we get the money, whether you eat it or not.'

Mine was in junior school 1960's. Extremely rare to have a black boy a in small Welsh village primary school - but we did and he was my friend. I don't know the details as the adults didn't talk much about such matters in those days - but I know he was seriously ill and his Dad helped him 'on his way'. I think Dad had some nominal punishement for his trouble. Tragic for that family.
