I've just been discovering Jazz over the last couple months and I'm really enjoying the music. I like Gary Crosby in particular.
Can anyone recommend any good jazz bands?
Also, where is the best place to go in England for Jazz. I'm in the Midlands, but willing to travel. I'd love to experience some live.

Like Jaxx / fusion myself rather than traditional jazz.

I don't like pure Jazz, but like some of the Soul/Jazz crossovers.

if you live in the midlands, might be worth going to monmouth, just inside the border of wales, to the queens head, they have a big music scene there from bands all over the world, quite a bit of jazz too, might be worth checking out as it's not far away from you. here's the webpage. http://www.queensheadmonmouth.co.uk/

Absolutely, he was just brilliant. And the genius of Charlie Parker a master of the alto saxophone. And Ella Fitzgerald, so technically perfect. Nina Simone who can cross over from Jazz to R&B and Gospel and Pop. Miles Davis another all-time great. And over here Kenny Ball and Acker.....so many. Not my favourite music but I do like Jazz. |
