I only wanted a battered sausage n chips bito
![]() Religion , really ? all the other shops seem to be owned by asians ? |
By:
In the old days fishermen didnt got out on a saturday night i think. Though i guess most of it is frozen now so it is slightly epidemic.
By:
Nearest fish and chip is 2 miles away, they charge £12 to sit down for haddock and chips, I think you get some peas as well though having said that. I don't bother much with take away food, maybe a Thai every now and then but they charge West End prices as well.

They'd make a killing if they did open , these pizza shops & chinky's aint cheap !
By:
Blimey Slippy , how much is a pint of milk
![]() |
By:
Erm, no idea Mc M. I don't really drink much milk just a tiny drop in my tea. It's about a pound or so but not sure about that. To be fair the chippie has won awards for best shop in London but it's a bit fierce to charge so much if you ask me.
By:
In London at least, traditionally it is Monday night they do not open, because Billingsgate fish market did not open on Sundays.
By:
It used to be unlawful to sell fish & chips on a sunday, so they all shut, One shop near me got round this in the 70s by selling fish & potato croquettes.
By:
Yep i was joking , but i guess you pay top dollar for everything living in a nice part of London , but no doubt they're nice
That's the beauty of living in the midlands i guess , there's a Chip shop around every other corner ![]() |
By:
in london it used to be a roast dinner on a sunday afternoon and shell fish on the nightime and for a monday it used to be the left overs from the cold meat joint with egg and chips had that for my first 20yrs on this world
By:
You taking the rise out of me again Mc M
![]() ![]() I spent a weekend in Bromsgrove once, that was me and The Midlands done and dusted, everyone wanting to fight each other. |
By:
is it actually against the law for them to open then ?
I just find it strange & very old fashioned when every other takeaway & pizza shop is open , McDonalds & KFC open 24 hours yet nobody can sell me a nice portion of chips ![]() |
By:
I used to like the bloke coming around the pubs with a fish tray. Jellied eels, cockles, whelks, buttered prawns.
By:
Could be something to do with maximum opening hours. Maybe fish and chips sells better during the day as people cant be @rsed to go out for it on a Sunday evening. Much easier to get a delivery. So if they open at midday for the afternoon trade, they have to shut at 6pm.
By:
![]() I don't mean to Mr Blue , My apologies ![]() hmm yes it is true , wherever you go somebody will wanna fight you , one of the reasons i stopped going out of a night time ![]() |
By:
And also the supply of fresh fish is virtually impossible on a Sunday.
By:
hmm yeah , them crabsticks are nice with a pint i agree!
By:
"hmm yes it is true , wherever you go somebody will wanna fight you,..."
That can't be true of everywhere. |
By:
hence my 22.38 post
By:
most trad fish n chips places are owner operated, so Sunday is their day off
most fast food joints are run by employees so feck em they can work Sunday |
By:
we used to wait for the toffee apple man who used to come around on hes moped
By:
Feck me Dr. He sounds like a right Jimmy Saville.
By:
crabsticks never in a million years they are a new thing
By:
I aways had the jellied eels meself, pepper and vinegar obviously.
Altogether now, Maybe it's because I'm a Londoner.. |
By:
the chinese takeaways are all owner operated too rick
plus most people don't even buy fish from the chip shop , more pies , doner/chicken meat , kebabs , sausages etc |
By:
no we and the bloke who used to go around shouting out cockels mussels in the morning and about 3pm the toffee apple man and about 5pm the ice cream man who used to cut the ice cream out off blocks not this morden day ice cream vans

"You say that, Moonbeam, but I bet you do buy a McDonalds again. Hey, a drive through! At least there's less chance of you getting into fight that way, not having to get out the car ![]() |
