you could argue i suppose that the top flight then was on a par with the championship standard wise  ,so yes ..this years achievement is a real first in that sense

Raikkonen's win in the Australian GP. He actually started 7th on the grid moved up to 4th and then won by the incredidably exciting tactic of having one less pit stop than his rivals. It doesn't get better than this so let's hope that the dreary processions we've seen in recent years are a thing of the past.
