Brilliant comedy.  Just watching the inflatable dolls episode.  Seriously why dont we have any good family(this episode not the best example of family tbf) comedies anymore.  We have lots of good modern comedies still... Alan partridge, the office, inbetweeners etc.. But not many that are good for the whole family.  My Family and outnumbered are both crap by the way so they dont count.

Rodney: Trigger what are you doing here?
Trigger: Well Dave, Del Boy said he'd give me a lift down the pub.
Rodney: Oh I suppose that's... Hold on, you live closer to the pub then we do?
Trigger: Yeah I know, but Del Boy said he'd give me a lift down the pub.
Rodney: But Trigger, you've had walk past the pub to get to our flat!
Trigger: I know, but Del Boy said he'd give me a lift down the pub.

I quite liked the Royle Family. Surely that counts as northern.

But yes, OFAH is my favorite of all time and I am the forum expert on it. Others will attest to that.

Yeah, series 1, particularly Big Brother, was weak. Everything seemed too wooden and as you say, they seemed to be forcing their lifestyle down the viewers throats. To me, and many fans, Series 6 was amongst the strongest.

So many classic moments. Fall through the bar, blow up dolls, The Groovy gang, The seance and more.

For second to second laughs, Friday 14th was a very solid episode. Every other line was funny.

Relationships do sitcoms no favours at all.

If you speak to Friends fans, many will agree that it went downhill badly when Monica and Chandler got together.

It wouldn't have been so bad if the women had comic talent, but thy didn't. Marlene miles above them in sitcom acting stakes.
Report rob_dylan March 3, 2013 12:28 AM GMT
Series seven was worse, every episode involved rodney and casandra arguing, not great tv imo.  But still had its moments... Like alberts pretend shock three times, or was that a christmas special?  Still think John Sullivan had a touch of genius about him, i mean some sitcoms are inevitable insomuch as sooner or later there was bound to be a sitcom made about it... The office,(the office), fawlty towers(hotel), porridge(prison).. Etc.  who would have thought up a young kid and a flashy market trading older brother living with their grandad in a council flat in south london... And done it so well.
Report rob_dylan March 3, 2013 12:30 AM GMT
Yes marlene is the best woman actor in it.  Racquel is ok.  Cassandra(character and actor) is diabolical.

Not too fond of canned laughter though, it spoils a lot of shows.

My favourites were Flowery Twats, OFAH, Steptoe and Dads Army.

Just Good Friends was about a cockney wide boy who drove a Jaguar, worked for a bookie, as well as lived in a flat the bookie owned, and had a nice bird... Where do they get these stupid ideas from Silly

One that was very popular that I didn't think much of was Porridge.

Since when have "the most" been right?

"Most" people who watch TV on a Saturday evening in the run-up to Christmas watch the X Factor. That doesn't mean it's any fúcking good.

And although I posted about some great northern comedies and some dire southern ones, why does it matter? And more importantly, who is to determine what is northern and southern? For instance, Perrin and Rising Damp were set down south, but Leonard Rossiter (the main character in both programmes) was a Scouser. Porridge was set in a prison in Cumbria, but Ronnie Barker (surrounded by prisoners and prison officers from the north and Scotland) was a southerner.
