I've got to get points for this. Cool

The illusion of being dead.

Over the years, various magicians have performed on stage with audience members who are asked to hold the magicians wrists as though taking his pulse.

I first saw Robert Harbin do this when I was about 9 years old.

They are given a baton, and they have to tap their own microphone each time they feel the pulse.

They obviously start to tap at the same speed, then one of them will start to slow down while the other one carries on at normal pulse speed, much to the amusement of the audience.

Soon, the second participant will also start to slow down the taps on the microphone, and the audience are now bemused.

Eventually they will stop tapping as they feel no pulse at all.

You are now 'dead'.

The audience members really are picked at random, they are not stooges.

I have done this sevaral times at parties, and have completely fooled medical people as well, including my sister-in-law, who is a senior midwife of 20+ years experience.

Is it some mystical oriental meditation merhod of stopping your pulse completely while staying alive?

Of ocurse it isn't, but that's what you tell your audience.

The only props you need are two golf balls.

Out of sight of your audience, place one in each armpit before you start to perform, and gently grip it with your arm to your side. You will have to keep your elbows pinned to your side throughout, but you move your lower arms where you want.

To get your pulse to slow down, simply grip the ball a bit tighter to your side, doing just one arm at first, which will give a different pulse count to your other arm.

Squeeze as you see fit, and eventually, if you squeeze the balls as hard as you can to your side, you will have no pulse at all.

I have no idea if this can harm you medically, but it has never harmed me.

Have fun. Happy

In Italy the number 17 is considered unlucky.

This is probably because in Roman digits 17 is written XVII, that could be rearranged to "VIXI", which in Latin means "I have lived" but can be a euphemism for "I am dead"

A series of events happened during the making of The Omen (October 1975 to January 1976) that caused some speculation as to whether or not the film was "cursed".

Separate flights for both actor Gregory Peck and executive producer Mace Neufeld were struck by lightning when flying between the USA and England, and producer Harvey Bernhard was barely missed by a lightning bolt in Rome.

A restaurant that Neufeld and Peck were to eat at in England was bombed by the IRA.

A plane hired by the studio to take aerial shots in Israel was switched at the last moment by the airline, and the clients who took the original plane were all killed when it crashed on takeoff.

A zookeeper who was helping the studio with handling animals was attacked and eaten alive by lions.

After working on The Omen, stuntman Alf Joint went on to work on A Bridge Too Far where he was pushed off a building during a stunt gone wrong.

On Friday, August 13, 1976, special effects artist John Richardson was in an accident in the Netherlands while also working on A Bridge Too Far, after work on The Omen was done. Less than a year after designing the deaths for The Omen, Richardson's car was involved in a major accident which killed and decapitated his female companion, in a way similar to David Warner's death in The Omen. It is rumored that upon stumbling out of his car he saw a road sign that said he was near the town of Ommen.
