The ceremony of the keys at the Tower of London has gone on almost uninterrupted

Been to see the ceremony when my bowls club was invited to play a team from the Tower, we played in the Moat, had a superb buffet dinner after & then were taken to see the ceremony in the twilight in an eerily quiet & almost empty Tower. |

Yes - I knew that. I think this is because bare knuckle fights would be over quicker. The use of gloves results in the sustained pounding of the brain. |

Think Decimate come from the Roman where every tenth Roman soldier was picked out to be executed when their were signs of rebellion & wrong doing in the legions.

On the subject of boxing... just my theory but I'm not convinced head guards are a good idea either. Yes, they prevent the superficial damage like cuts and bruises to the cheeks and eyes but maybe their use increases the risk of brain damage

Rubbish statistic. There are thousands of boxing matches every year, if two fighters die thats a very small percentage. There are no known bouts of bare knuckle fighting as they're illegal. So where do they get their figures from? Plenty of people die in fights outside pubs and clubs every year. |

The boxing stat.
Prior to the introduction of gloves boxers used to avoid 'head shots' as the damage to knuckles and hands was often enough to end a career. (Even with gloves boxers still suffer a lot of hand damage.) Boxers generally traded blows top the upper body. Gloves arrived. Head shots became the norm. Serious injuries increased |

In WWII,Germans tank drivers in Africa would drive tanks over camel poop for luck. Allies responded by planting land mines disguised as camel dung. Germans got wind of this and began riding over dung that was already overrun with tank tracks. In turn, Allies made mines looking like overrun dung. 40 years later, despite technological advancements in breeding, training, and drugs, Secretariat's Kentucky Derby track record still stands, and he ran each quarter mile faster than the one before it, accelerating the entire race. |
