Were they the only staff there looking after the old folks?
That would never have happened in real life.
Very enjoyable episode tho'

It is reasonably enjoyable viewing facts, so i will watch the whole series, but it is bllox. Like your gonna let those three loons take a dozen or so olduns to the beach with no qualified nurses present.

Yes, Rob. The CQC would have a field day with that lot.

Missed the first 15 minutes but 2nd half wasn't great. OK the show is Derek but it all seemed about Ricky Gervais this week.
Will watch the first 15mins on C4+1. Strange way to watch a show but I think I'll watch the whole lot again at some point.

Karl smacks kevin. Hannah doesnt marry her boyf cos she is married to her job? or perhaps does. Derek finds a bird. The home gets closed down by the nasty party?

Gervais just put this b.llox about derek's dad in so he can do some w@nky "proper acting". He is not doing a very good job of it either, load of b.llox.

Love Ricky.Love the way he just laughs at the absurdity of life.Funniest thing on youtube got to be 'Extras Out-takes series 2 part2'.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UvKhm2LIhDk
You've got to feel sorry for poor Rob Dylan. Calls it wrong all through the series, puts up a string of obvious and obviously shiit predictions tonight, then tries to redeem himself with his "dad comes along so Gervais can do the proper acting bolllox".
Then in a twist which must have had the poor fella crying into his cocoa the most unlikely, most stupid, almost most irrelevant character in the whole series who everyone thinks is there to play the fool totally turns it on its head and shows us once again what a class series this one has been and why when viewed in totality the narrative arc was inspired.
Sometimes Gervais leaves me cold but the boy done good there.

I'm late commenting on tonight's episode because I've been on the phone for an hour talking about it to my sister whose been a carer all her life. We both loved it - what a great way to end the series, very moving. I haven't always liked Gervais but he's done a great job on this occasion - brilliant.
Rob D - feel sorry for you mate. Can't understand why you watch it. You've already made your mind up that it's rubbish so do something else.

Just watched the last three back-to-back. Jumble Sale was class - KP with his 'its shitt' and the frog being brought back...yes obvious but made me cry with laughter...then the vulture daughter and 'does it fit? yes, good now feck off' was hitting a real nerve if anyone has had relations in a home...Duran Duran just class and last nights was wonderful.
If you sit there analysing it its crap. The acting is poor, KP is himself, Kevin ludicrous and Hannah the only 'real' character. But I just watch it, it makes me laugh and think in some places and nod my head in agreement and enjoy it.
Caitlin Moran may not agree but for me its like a monkey riding on a pig

If my valuable insights continue to be ridiculed I may just be tempted to take my well considered and often witty comments elsewhere. Have any of you even considered that prospect? Doesnt bear thinking about imo.

You lost any credibility you may have had in your argument when you suggested there would have been nurses everywhere in a residential care home. Stupid comment from an ill informed person who clearly simply has a Gervaise objection and cannot analyse objectively as a result.

I like gervaise and have the office box set, so that doesnt stand up to scrutiny EO. If that is a nursing home, as opposed to a residential home, then surely it would have a number of carers (ok not nurses) as well as a sister in charge of the ward on at all times. I fail to see how they could take a dozen or so people to the seaside for the day with the handyman, derek and the local p1sspot as the responsible people.
I found the series ok, just could have been better. Certainly enjoyable in parts hence I kept watching. And Ricky did go a bit over the top in that last episode, good luck to you if you got all teary eyed, I found it excruciatingly unsubtle. (The final episode). Seaweed throwing was my personal highlight.

My point is that it was clearly explained that it was a residential care home and not a nursing home so pretty much everything was explainable given a degree of comedic latitude but your own explanations were spectacularly wrong in any event except on one minor point. Obviously the piss can wouldn't have been swigging Special Brew whilst the inspector was there but the point remains in any case that you have excoriated an observational comedy largely on the back of a lack of authenticity which you have called wrong.
By the way Star Wars wasn't real either.

A documentary crew films the activities of the workers in a nursing home. Derek, a 49 year old worker who loves his job and the people he cares for, introduces the crew to some of the workers and residents
From wiki. Says it is a nursing home.

They are wrong. Trust me. I was a nurse and worked in nursing homes for some years. It's easy to see why lay people might have difficulty telling the difference but that is simply confusion. There are enough clues in the show including the big sign in front of the building which describes it as a residential care home.

Thinly veiled homage to Bowie's brother, in Gervais' mind, in the vain hope Bowie will like him for it.
All subconscious of course.

I turned it off after five minutes, thought it was terrible again.. Hope it improved cos I might give it another go later. Pathos is ok, but there was none of that in fawlty towers. Virtually none in dad's army, and very little in ofah. Was over emotional pap for the first five minutes.
