You should watch McShane in Deadwood. Superb. His passing of bladder stones was the best I've seen. Did a nice cameo recently in American Horror Story as a murderous Santa Claus. Nailed a priest to a cross - but who among us hasn't at one time or another?

Plus the way for days on end his life revolves around raising enough cash to buy a pasty to see him through to the day when an opportunity appears.
Firefly Gadroon is a good one, especially the opening passage where he's describing all the crooked bidders at an auction he's conducting.
And there's a real appreciation of old buildings, old customs and old craftsmanship.
