You are correct, it is all about opinion/personal taste
My opinion/personal taste is that I don't like musicians who take themselves way too seriously I suppose there is room for Bob Dylan and the like, but if you're an earnest fkucker trying to get your message across you better make sure you've got a catchy number or else you're going to look like a tw@t desperatemunter 05 Jan 13 21:40 seen the Cramps Leeds '84. Here's naked girl falling the stairs ... marvellous http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZI98Koc9Y-I "It looked like a mistake at a steeplechase A busted flywheel at a stock car race I fell in love at a terrible place When someone gave her a shove down a {huh!} staircase" Beat that Dylan! |

Wouldn't be that far down my list, but it seems not that many rockers on here though Slippy. Few seem to know that Back In Black has only ever been outsold by Thriller

Primal Scream - Screamadelica onwards are all great albums
AC/DC Ride My Bloody Valentine Spiritualised (not 'quite' happy with picking MBV for just two albums, similar as other people say for the Stone Roses) |

I did give them strong consideration, James. But, ultimately they failed to make the cut due to an overall slide in quality of their albums. Its a shame as their first album, "Bring It On" is in my opinion one of the best album ever made. "Liquid Skin" was solid enough and even "In Our Gun" had some merit. But, their recent albums just don't do it for me.
Still one of the best live bands I've ever seen though. ![]() |

Some real diversity amongst many posts and I have to agree with some others in that it's very difficult to nail it down to just FIVE!
FWIW, here goes with my dozen I've listened to for long periods over the decades; The Stranglers The Icicle Works The Divine Comedy Blondie Abba Bee Gees Depeche Mode Fleetwood Mac ELO Killing Joke Bauhaus 10 CC |

The question is about FAVOURITE bands, this could be swayed by any number of things, for me, the Stone Roses are in there for what they meant to me.
One great album and a bunch of great singles is enough for me. They summed up the zeitgeist. So: The Icicle Works The Wedding Present Pixies The Stone Roses Jay Z - For getting me out of the 20th century. |
