Blue is the colour, Maggie is her name...

i will be having a party when she goes
By:
Is it really still funny grown men saying "theyre having a party when Thatcher dies"?
My daughter (she's doing politics A level) on her 1st day her trendy lefty teacher told the class about his "Bottle of champagne" ready and waiting for when she dies. I found that appalling for a politics teacher to say and had a private word with him and he said "it was just a joke to relax the class" While i can see how she divides opinion massively, people abusing a frail old lady is very poor form indeed imo. |

Thats nice atkins
By:
So bring your good times and your laughter too
we're gonna celebrate your party with you |
By:
Do you instill your hatred into your kids?
By:
being a frail old lady does not excuse her actions when in power just like being old does not stop you being a collaberator or war criminal
By:
Not sure I'd actually celebrate anyone's death but definitely not someone who is no longer an active threat
By:
her legacy was pretty socially toxic, but i'm not entirely sure it was intended.
she did what she thought was right. waiting for an old lady to die so you can celebrate her death is pretty pathetic. from what i see, i imagine her life is probably pretty miserable at the moment and death could be a relief, so why aren't you hoping she lives in misery longer? |

judo - not saying people shouldn't be brought to justice for crimes committed in the past
By:
It will be a Public Holiday in Barnsley, trust me. She and her yankee sidekick killed whole communities that still haven't recovered and bear the scars.
By:
don't agree with celebrating anyone's death. I would be distraught if Blair died without standing trial in the Hague.
By:
I must admit my feelings have mellowed over the years but I will not shed a tear for her
By:
I'm not wishing her dead, but I'll be glad when she is.
I assume she's pretty f*cked as she hasn't been wheeled out in years. No sympathy for fellow human beings, even if she thought results might pan out overall for the better (which they didn't). She is a classic example of a psychopath. |
By:
it was bonvivvy that made the 'frail old lady' comment
it's ironic that the unintended consequences of Thatcherism are exactly the social ills that drive the red faced Tories to distraction these days and how ironic they are following identical policies that will increase fecklessness and further widen the gaps between the rich and poor whilst simultaneously pulling up the ladder of social mobility!! |
By:
shes a evil witch who killed people with her actions
By:
Big Issue, she took the union on, was never gonna be defeated.
By:
She was a courageous woman who walked the walk,i dont agree with all she did but she inherited an absolute basket case and a virtually bankrupt unionised one at that. She dragged this country screaming and kicking into the 20th Century (despite the best efforts of the uk's most odiuos county Yorkshire)
I expect this thread to fill with bile and hatred so will bid my leave while wishing Mrs T a peaceful xmas. |
By:
Judo - surely the last Labour government proved its not just Tory Governments that preside over increases in fecklessness and inequality whilst reducing social mobility.
By:
Atkins - do you think there'll be a minute's silence before football matches when she dies?
Lampard's a Tory btw |
By:
Let's not forget she was elected and re-elected twice
By:
BonVivvy, Thatcher quaking in her shoes after your endorsement of various paedos.

By:
the last 'labour' government was a poor son of the Thatcher government... virtually indistinguishable really in it's effects on social mobility
By:
Indeed, so why single out thatcher from every government minister in decades?
By:
people abusing a frail old lady is very poor form indeed imo.
Who's abusing her? She didn't abuse? |
By:
i agree with nick. think there will be trouble when she dies there are a lot of people waiting for her to go i hope there wont be a state funeral
By:
I thought it had been confirmed (state funeral)
By:
She dragged this country screaming and kicking into the 20th Century
And virtually destroyed manufacturing and industry, making the UK a financial sector economy. Useless, as we now know. |
By:
because she started the dismantling of the working class communities and the transfer of wealth and ownership to global capital and so on
those communities had a real moral sense of hard work, thrift, uprightedness, right from wrong, cleanliness, pulling together and bettering yourselves. Throughout the post war period the working class families strove to better themselves, send their kids to University so they could get better jobs and so their grand kids did not have to do the same back breaking work... and if they couldn't get to uni they got an apprenticeship or an office job with prospects... that has all been destroyed for purely ideological reasons and the outcome is the social mess we see now I know what I talk about, I am one of those working class kids that got to uni and became a professional it's all about values and the values of Thatcher and those that followed are divisive and elitist |
By:
then there will be trouble

that has all been destroyed for purely ideological reasons and the outcome is the social mess we see now slow down there. many of this hard working people were employed in industries with trade unions that couldn't see the bigger picture, and a labour government that bowed too easily to them, and are equally to blame for thatcher's socially toxic legacy. you cannot exclusively lay the blame at her door. |
By:
Well said judorick, summed things up nicely there. I wont celebrate when she dies or shed a tear, but I lived in one of these communities and saw what she did. Yes, the Unions take some blame, but they were trying to protect what had been hard fought for over many years, who willing accepts lessor terms and conditions without putting up some kind of a fight. I know as i have negotiated with Trade Unions over the year and it was very frustrating from a management perspectibe but I understood where they came from and why.

By:
come on chaps it's nearly xmas, let's not spoil it
By:
uk workers celebrating that workers can be shat on whenever management want, thats her legacy and its alive and well
By:
i_agree_with_nick 21 Dec 12 22:17 Not sure I'd actually celebrate anyone's death but definitely not someone who is no longer an active threat Why? you celebrate Guy Fawkes getting touched every year. |
