I cant believe it, its like human catnip, Ive not been on it a day and already Im stiring it into everything and am as relaxed and laid back as I used to be on moggies!

In your first post you say you are buzzing. Then you say you are relaxed and laid back.

So does this stuff make you feel buzzy or relaxed?
Report dustybin December 6, 2012 2:09 PM GMT
Its not like getting off your head, its a feeling of erm well being I guess, but its an actual feeling.
Ive read a lot on the stuff, its new over here but it has some amazing qualities, look it up, I was introduced to it from a muscle building point of view, and told it gives energy etc, not sure if this feeling is that or if its the other stuff they say it does, like helps your neurons and brain activity....its a bit bizarre tbh that a few teaspoons of seeds of the mint family can do so much good
Report Makybe_Diva December 6, 2012 2:14 PM GMT
I'll try it Dusty. Thanks.

I'll mix some in my green vegetable juice Happy

Mogadon - benzodiazepine hypnotic pills
Report dustybin December 7, 2012 8:30 AM GMT
Correct EGG, but not hypnotic in the trippy sense, it was just reference the the relaxed feeling that was similar
I'm not suggesting anyone takes benzodiazepine drugs other than where prescribed, and although a natural superfood, Chia is as of now unregulated other than to be added in the making of bread (in this country) so if u do decide to find out its qualities then its your choice.
That said it makes me laugh really that these seeds were only really discovered a couple of decades ago, and only recently have been introduced to this country, it just goes to show that alcohol and tabaco firms get centuries to f uck up the nation and something that's good for you takes so long to arrive.
Chia contains something like 8 times more omega 3 than salmon and has 18 of the known 20 something amino acids. It's quite remarkable and so easy it add to any diet.
The 'buzz' I experienced on reflection sort of originated from my chest area, and might actually simply have been my body actually getting the minerals it's been crying out for rather than a drug experience.
I have a tendency to not get all the vitamins etc and sometimes feel like the gears grind in my mind. Within a couple of days this has completely gone, I had got so used to the feeling I thought it was just the aging and (dare I say drug misuse) catching up with me Happy

The leaf
I assume its just the chia seed, mix it with stuff.

On the basis of "all things in moderation" I wonder if you can overdose on it!

Thanks for the heads up Dusty, I'd never heard of them really.  Where do you get yours from?  I've found a 1kg bag for thirteen of your finest English pounds.  Seems the best value I could find. I'll try adding some to my porridge every morning and see if there's any difference.

I get it from a local fitness shop.
I didn't take much notice of the price tbh, the protein powder etc is pretty pricy so didn't really bother looking.

Do you have to soak them first then or just add them as they are?
Report GranpaChook. December 7, 2012 9:37 PM GMT
I think you just sprinkle them as they are.  Google tells me that if you soak them in water they form a 'chia-gel' that's good for smoothies and things but I'm fairly sure you can just add a tea spoon to soups, puddings, etc etc.

The place I got mine was here:

Grandpa chook got it right.
They are versatile, you can sprinkle em or soak em to form the gel. It's also accurate that you shouldn't really have then with everything, just a few teaspoons a day, I just got carried away mixing em with all sorts.
The guys at the fitness shop gave me this little book about chia, it lists about 55 ways of taking em, but its pretty much common sense.

Oldgold, is that true, u felt light headed on em?
I've not seen that mentioned.
Report dustybin December 8, 2012 7:25 PM GMT
One other thing that might be important.
They say that chia seeds act as a form of booster to medication, it increases the concentration of whatever you are taking apparently by making the body absorb or process the drug more efficiently.
Something that might need to be considered if any of you are on prescription drugs.

I'd start with 2 teaspoons.
Why u latching on to the moggy comment? They have nowt to do with chia, I used it as a reference, moggies are like strong sleeping tablets.

It's more of a pamphlet and and it's called 'chia seed information pack' and is published by www.chiaUK.com

Ok cheers mate, just never heard of moggies before and I've had a few different things thats all.

2 teaspoons it will be then, looking forward to trying them.
Report dustybin December 8, 2012 8:47 PM GMT
That comment about chia having an effect on other drugs wasn't aimed at anyone imparticular btw
I assume its just a fact, like taking grapefruit juice at the same time as other drugs increases the potency.
I'm not sure if asking if moggies are like Valium (after I said the initial feeling was similar) whether you are thinking chia are ideally placed to deal with a perceived health issue you might have (u said u were thinking about getting prescription drugs)
Remember chia is still only a 'food'

There are reports that increased flatulence can be a side effect of chia seeds consumption in big quantities.  This is probably because of the high fiber content of the seeds.  Likewise, people who are allergic to mustard seeds are observed to have negative reactions to the use of chia seeds as well.  Likewise, because chia seeds are known as an abundant source of potentially blood-thinning Omega-3, people who are taking aspirins and blood thinners, hemophiliacs, or those who are scheduled to undergo surgical procedures, must refrain from taking chia seeds.

Some experts also advise against the use of chia seeds in large quantities as this may have an addictive effect.  And although tests are not made on pregnant women, the use of chia seeds for expectant mothers is highly discouraged as it may result to chia seed side effects either on the mother or the baby, or both.
Report Ampleforth December 11, 2012 12:36 PM GMT
does high fibre cause flatulence? i thought fibre on the whole does not do much in the body apart from bulking up stools and keeping the digestive system moving and clean, a bit like a broom..... fermenting things like vegatables, pulses, and suger are the cause of gas from my own experiance....

you would be surprised how little fibre there is some stuff, if you have ever had one of those fibre gel sachet drinks you will see how little fibre you actually need a day. One sachet mixed with water is enough to give you 100% of your daily need, one sachet would be about a teaspoon full. I think it is made from coconut husk or something similar, and like Chia seeds (apparently) , quicky expands and turns into a gel when mixed with water.......
