Not really a drama i guess but band of brothers is one of the best box sets ever.
|
|
By:
Seen most of the usual suspects (Sopranos, Wire, 24 etc, etc.)
and The West Wing still beats them all in quality and entertainment. |
|
By:
Id agree with m4s, band of brothers.

I'll ttt the US series recommendation thread.

Thanks AM. Is The Wire genuinely must-see?
|
|
By:
The Wire is must see....but in my opinion it is not a patch on David Simon's previous work Homicide Life On The Street.
If you like sci-fi the reworked Battlestar Galactica was of the highest quality. |
|
By:
The Wire is the only one of the 'biggies' that keeps getting a mention that I couldn't get into personally. But based purely on the general consensus you probably really should watch it.
After you have bought the Breaking Bad box set that is. ![]() |

Loved 24. Just ordered Homeland DVD having missed series 1 and will Sky+ series 2. After that I'll try West Wing.
Tried The Wire, just didn't like it. I'm no prude and I'm sure it appeals to others but there was just too much swearing for me . |
|
By:
Yes, this Homeland keeps being mentioned as good...
|
|
By:
Poppydog is correct. The West Wing. First 4 series in particular. After that, Aaron Sorkin left and the writing got steadily worse.

The Shield - was admiring a box set of all 7 series in HMV today. but £69 was a high st ripoff price.

The Shield was very good , mind watching Braquo after made them look like a bunch of jobsworths.

Breaking Bad is incredible...no full box set as the final episodes are next year...

Every drama, US or British, I have ever seen has been overrated imo
|
|
By:
I really enjoyed season 1 of the wire.
|
|
By:
Not seen The Wire, but other than The Sopranos (my NAP), then the THE WEST WING (NB) is head and shoulders above anything else out there.

Band of Brothers
Harpers Island was missed by many of BBC2 last year. Excellent though. |

The Wire gets my vote but would recommend that you put the subtitles on - found it difficult to follow the lingo to start with!

Broadwalk Empire.

Sons Of Anarchy has been recommended to me but not seen it yet so no idea if it is any good or not.

I really liked series one of The Wire, the accents do take some getting used to tho.
series two was good , but didn't really end it sort of petered out. I am half way through series three which is so far as good as series one.lets hope it doesnt fail in the same way as s2. Wouldn't say it was better than the soprano's but it's not far behind. |
|
By:
The Shield
Dexter (don't we all at some point in our lives wish we were Dexter??) |
|
By:
Agree that series 2 was not as good as 1, but 3 is back to its best. Halfway through 4 at the moment and so far so good.
|
|
By:
Sopranos, Mad Men & Breaking Bad are the absolute Holy Trinity of US drama that must be watched. Seen all the others Wire, 24, lost, west wing etc etc but they are a league below.
