most of the black country used to be part of the county of worcestershire and folks were proud of that.
that included the likes of halesowen.brierly hill.stourbridge and dudley used to hear loads of black country accents at the new road ground for the old sunday league games back in the seventies not sure if that is the case these days tbf  |

You need to be careful buying flats or apartments, you don't want to live in a place surrounded by DSS renters.
So check the LHA rates for the Dudley area, and make sure the other flats in the block that you’re interested in are being rented for above the LHA rates. As a cash buyer, you could slip up with the lease. If the lease has less than eighty years to run it needs extending and pronto, seventy years and you'r talking at least £6,000 all told. So you don’t want to start messing about with extending the lease. |

thats why he is interested in dudley rather than wolves. good luck buying an "apartment" in dudley. for 70k will be an ex council flat. the OP was even chipping about accents, dipstick of the highest order. then someone gives Halesowen a cecil. blimey. enough to make you think brummies have some sort of superiority complex! |

They're fairly new apartments in a nice modern area but i hadn't checked the LHA .. Just looked and it's £375 1bed & £450 2bed .. the 1beds rent for around 400-425 so a 2 bed i guess 450 minimum so slightly above average & doubt they're DSS rented majority .. most look quite tidily kept I'm not sure i'd stay there for years anyhow & may even rent it out myself in the future if i move on but the lease should be fine The fact of the matter is i'd be paying £450 to rent myself otherwise .. so why not buy a cheap place instead |

What is there to say about Dudley? There’s no doubt that the traffic is a problem, and the council have made a complete mess of the town centre.
Too much is made of the accent, and there aren’t that many who speak really broad anyway. Towns are pretty much the same, there are good bits and there are bad bits so find a good bit, but your friends are more important than the area. If you don’t like ethnics then you need to be extra careful where you settle. I believe you need an armed bodyguard if you live in Brum these days or wear a bulletproof vest. There’s no problem like that in the Black Country they’ve all got Staffies. |

What about Bilston? good shops and market, predominantly white, some nice pubs and people are friendly and as a bonus far enough away from both Wolvo
 and Walsall but still easy access to motorway network and Brum if you need it.e.g quick search http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-21292830.html googled the street view and looks ok to me, although no mention of the lease length (the building and design looks about 20 years old) |

You can't mention Bilston without a word about The Trumpet in the high street.
It used to be a great night out for jazz, and it still is apparently. Tommy Burton played there in the old days and then Reg Keirle. They played for free and had a collection at the end of the night. Some good names played there, I remember seeing Benny Waters one night, we turned up and there he was playing his sax, great stuff. I don't mean to get caught up in rivalry either ... i'm just trying to consider my options with the cash i've got .. and am not actually from Brum (am originally) but if you read properly brngwt i said the other side of Brum meaning like 20 miles away
I could also buy in a much better area than Wolvo .. so although i'm almost homeless where will you be in ten years time ? I for sure won't be in Dudley , Brum or ffs bloody Wolvo !! |
