I won't mention the site but here's the chat that went back and forth - I'm from Canada. I'll replace "Me" with my real name and "Site" with the cs reps name:
Site: How can I help you? Me: I'm trying to sign up but it says you don't accept Canadian accounts do to local laws. Which law exactly is that since I have accounts at Betfair, Stan James, Bet365 and Victor Chandler. Site: I'm sorry we can't help you but that's the law. Me: What law exactly is that? I know it's not illegal to wager offshore in Canada so it must be a UK law. Site: Not necessarily Me: What do you mean by that? Site: We're just following the law. Me: I understand but if I'm breaking the law I want to know which one it is. That's what I'm trying to find out from you. Site: Find out what? Me: Which law it is that signing up with you would be breaking. Site: I don't understand. Me: When I tried to sign up it said I couldn't because local laws don't allow accounts from my country. I'm just trying to figure out which law that is. Site: It's a local law. Me: UK or Canada. Site: A combination of both. Me: What?? Site: It's complicated but we need to follow the law. Me: Is there anyone else there I can talk to? Site: No sir. But it won't matter because everyone here needs to follow the law. Me: What law? Site: The law that won't let you sign up. Me: And what law is that? Site: I'm afraid I can't tell you that. Me: Because you haven't got a clue right? Site: There's no need to get nasty. Is there anything else I can help you with? Me: No I'll call back tomorrow from 9-5 when maybe I can get an answer. Thanks anyways. Site: You're welcome. Please tell your friends about our site. Me: What for, they're all Canadian so they can't sign up. Site: Well that's the law. Me: Whatever.
