On the strength of the video, I bought the book for £2.99...was a complete fookin nightmare with a lot of obscure Yorkshire dialect...gave up after the intro and 18 pages...tempted to send Kate Bush the bill, adjusted for inflation.

A book Of Dreams by  Peter Reich may be more to your taste.

Cloudbusting was based on that.

I found a book, nearly ten years ago now, on a shelf. I didn't know anything about the writer. I just pulled it off the shelf, it looked interesting, and it was an incredible story. It's written by Peter Reich, and it's called A Book of Dreams. It's about himself as a child, through his eyes as a child, looking at his father and their relationship. It's incredibly beautiful, it's very, very emotive, and very innocent because it's through a child's eyes. His father was a very respected psychoanalyst, and besides this, something that features in the book, he made machines called ``cloudbusters'' that could make it rain, and him and his father used to go out together and make it rain; they used to go ``cloudbusting.'' And, unfortunately, the peak in the book is where his father is arrested, taken away from him; he was considered a threat. So, suddenly, his father is gone, so it's a very sad book as well.

It's great how these book ideas fired her imagination and she was able to create new things, which are strange and vivid.

Alison Goldfrapp is like that now, I reckon...Plain

FROM Goldfrapp wiki page..."As a teenager she listened to Kate Bush, T. Rex, Donna Summer..." Grin

Just saw that!

Alison Goldfrapp listened to Kate Bush, Prince, T. Rex, Donna Summer and Iggy Pop and The Stooges as a teenager.[65] In the early 1990s, while working in Belgium and travelling Europe, she discovered Serge Gainsbourg, 1970s Polish disco music and Weimar cabaret. Will Gregory's musical background was classical music and has cited Ennio Morricone as his main influence.[1] Other media, including film, have influenced Goldfrapp; Alison Goldfrapp cites Roman Polanski's psychological thriller Cul-de-sac and the cult film The Wicker Man as influences.[15][66] They also draw inspiration from surrealism and nature, all of which appear in the band's album artwork, which Goldfrapp designs in collaboration with Big Active.
