Well it's been said that Mrs Bartolozzi is the one song that will divide people right down the middle, and it's no exception with me. No matter how many times I listen to it I just don't like it. The first verses I can just about cope with, but it just goes on too long. "Sloosh sloshy get that washing clean".. sorry I just can't relate to it. It's the one track on the album where I always hit the skip track button on the CD player.
An ode to washing machines... sorry I just don't buy it. To me doing the washing is stuffing the clothes in putting the powder in and turning the dial on and then forgetting about it for the next hour and a half, it's utterly mundane and I certainly wouldn't write a song about it even if I could. And the rest of the song drifting off into some kind of fantasy... I'm sorry but she really needs to get out more. |

this is truly I think Kate darkest song... when first heard people talked about it didnt know what to think ,.. I stayed with a clear opened mind.. humm a song about washing machine.. what does that mean>> a meaning to it??.. when I heard it for the very first time .... it was the very first song I cried to ... be cuse the character that kates sinning about she must have been a murder .... she is sad .. mixed up woman that insane about cleaning ,.. there always something very deep and sad about people upsess with cleaning ... like ( Joan Crawford) she is a very deeply disburse woman ... she was very up see with cleaning .. she even one time demaned her maids to mop and buff the trees out side in her front lawn ,.. he maids quit... that day... even so the idea that there is blood and soup mix in together all the while Mrs. Bartolozzi .. just stare blankly into the washing machine and sing this .............. I did found an image that speck to me in kates lyrics here , ( should been Kate herself) when I seen it thought of Kate bush and the character she created of Mrs. Bartolozzi.... .. I dont know there something very moving.... to me about washing machines and laundry I agree with Kate there is something very personal about someone clothes ... the lacy persons who was murder .... her mother said on a TV show primetime said she kept lacis shirt in a plastic bag , to preserved her smell so her mother will never for get lacy, its something to hold in value.. and they do say that sent bring you memories too....... so I didnt laugh at Mrs. Bartolozzi,.... I just listen with my full intense that Kate bush derived from me.. she did a very good job on this song , and it could be a movie ,... and this song Mrs. Bartolozzi , can be the theme song.... could it?? peace |
