Firstrow had everything. Just about every football match,tennis,everything. Apart from the irritating timeline advertisements it so good i was thinking of cancelling my Sky package.

happened last year pre-superbowl. wtf has this got to do with homeland security? fck all. homeland security is just an arm of us business, and some would say the military is as well, furthering oil and mineral interests. but let's not get into that

intersting to read that megaupload were about to launch a site allowing artists to post their stuff on it and keep 90% of the proceeds. universal studios and other vested interests would not have liked that one little bit. so let's get homeland security to shut down the internet.

Can someone tell me please.

What would the problem be in Sky launching an add on to Sky Go, whereby you can pick the match you wish to watch live (they have cams at every game obv), but can only access by having a SS subscription. Keep the TV channel as it is, but give subscribers the choice.

I'm sure they do this in the NFL now.

google atdhe, there are about 50 sites with links to every sporting event, also have sop casts available which are streams of all the major tv channels (sky, espn etc...)

The official reason they don't want 3PM KO's shown in the EPL in the UK, is they don't want attendances at the actual stadiums dropping because people are watching on the tv, so they say. Why not operate the system they have in the USA in some sports were if the game is sold out 3 days in advance you can get it dirt cheap on ppv for say £2. Simple enough really.

Problem is fans from smaller clubs would still suffer.

Anfield is gonna sell out everytime, but the DW stadium certainly won't. Therefore, Wigan fans would pay more than LFC fans.

I don't think Saturday attendances would be hit that hard tbh. People who go to football generally go even when it's on TV. Plus, it may force clubs to sell tickets at an acceptable level, rather than the likes of £50+ that Arsenal charge. Maybe finally get to a position where it is affordable for a family to go to a top level match.

There is also a case for disabled fans who genuinely can't get to games. Shouldn't they be able to watch their favourite teams games. What about people who have to work. Think we currently have an antiquated viewing system that needs changing.

What is this dispute about?

Six years ago Karen Murphy, who runs a pub in Portsmouth, was taken to court for showing Premier League games by using a cheap Greek decoder card, which cost £118 per month instead of the £480 it would have cost with the official broadcaster. Despite racking up costs and fines of £8,000, Murphy took her case to the European Court of Justice claiming that she should be able to show coverage from within the European Union in her pub. In February, an Advocate General for the ECJ said she was right.


What happened in court?

The ECJ delivered a judgment that any legislation preventing the import, sale or use of these decoder cards cannot be justified in EU law that concerns free trade. While Murphy’s case still needs to be settled at the High Court (probably in about five months’ time), the ECJ judgment is final and cannot be appealed against.


So, every pub in the country has sent off for a cheap Greek decoder card?

No, and here it gets a little complicated. While the Premier League can no longer preserve territorial exclusivity, the ECJ ruling effectively allowed them to stop foreign broadcasts in pubs or other public places. It turns out that while you cannot copyright a match, you can copyright things like the Premier League logo, any original music or even the way that you edit the footage.
So all the Premier League has to do is put a logo on all its foreign feeds and that copyrights the lot. If you want to show this copyrighted material in your pub you need the Premier League’s permission. And guess what? They are not going to give it to you if you have a Greek decoder.


Nothing has really changed then?

Wrong again. You are only in breach of copyright if you are showing it in public. What this ruling means is that you are now well within your rights to watch Premier League games on a foreign feed in your own home.
So we should all be sending off for cheap Greek decoder cards?

If you don’t mind watching Premier League football with Greek commentary. In fact, you can now buy a decoder card from any provider in the EU. While savings can be made on what you pay per month, the downside is that, without intelligible commentary, reporting or post-match interviews, much of the drama will be lost.

To be taken into account, however, is the fact that foreign providers broadcast the Saturday 3pm games, which are subject to a domestic blackout. So diehard fans who cannot watch at the ground now have a legal way of watching their side on a Saturday afternoon.
They also show more games than domestic broadcasters, in many cases all 380 Premier League games. It will be interesting to see how hard foreign broadcasters will market their services after this ruling.


What is the Premier League going to do about it?

There is not a lot it can do until it renegotiates the rights in 2013. So for 18 months, fans can figure out ways to get more football for less before a new deal puts an end to it. That will probably happen by the Premier League negotiating a pan-EU rights deal.


Will this mean the Premier League makes less money from TV rights?

The continental European rights are worth £350 million of the £1.4 billion the Premier League make from selling their rights abroad. Most of that comes from France, Germany and Scandinavia, not from the smaller markets like that in Greece. It is not clear yet whether a new pan-European deal would be worth less.
The really big area of growth is in Asia so there should not be too much of an effect. The Premier League will certainly want to leave no scope for a European broadcaster undercutting Sky and ESPN in the long term because any diminution of the £1.7 billion domestic rights deal would have serious consequences for English football.


Does this ruling have wider consequences?

There could be problems for Uefa, the European football governing body, which sells its rights to the Champions League to each EU country. There could also be serious consequences for other sports that sell broadcast rights on a country-by-country basis in Europe.
