they're quite normal behind the giant pepperpot costume. I've had brief words with a couple in Morrisons.

Have you ever talked to somebody in a burka ?
Yes I loved wearing it and was talking to someone who was wearing a Tw4tka. |
|
By:
not just spoken to one, but she also got here t1ts out! Was on a flight several years ago in the Gulf (Dubai I think) and a young girl was sitting next to me with her baby. She was very pleasant although didn't speak English too well. Some time into the flight she opened the front of her outfit and flopped one of her bristols out for the sprog. Seemed very bizarre, since she still had her face covered, but presumably needing to feed the baby trumps modesty in their culture.

yeah, talked to the wife over the breakfast table this morning...what a bloody mess she makes eating her cornflakes!

I wonder how old you have to be to start wearing one? HH was the baby on board the flight all 'burkaed up'?

'Curb your enthusiasm' had a funny episode a few years ago with a woman in a burka, can't seem to find it on youtube though.

''...and what a pleasure it was to talk to somebody in a burka''.
How weird is that! What a pleasure it is to talk to somebody in a suit. What a pleasure it is to talk to somebody in a tracksuit. What a pleasure it is to talk to somebody in a sports jacket. I cannot imagine any situation in which I'd be posting THAT burka, or any similar phrase, in a forum. Very Odd! |
|
By:
Incidentally - I had dinner with a Muzzy man and his wife, who'd been well and truly burka'd, in a Spanish hotel. She was not allowed to speak to me at all - he, in his NY peak cap, t-shirt and denim jeans had to speak for her.

Was it a pleasure ?
|

It was interesting, yes. On a coach trip we were thrown together for a midday meal with a third couple (black man with white wife from Holland). The silence was deafening so I started a conversation by offerring the Muslims wine :). I asked the fully veiled Muslim lady direct questions several times and when asked hubby confirmed she understood and spoke English well (god knows why or how she practised lol)! The best I could get was her nodded agreement with her husbands responses on her behalf.

Thats a funny story Ivor, nice one
I most probably should have used the word interesting/unusual rather than pleasure but all the same it was a happy/unusual time shared by all in the supermarket. |

By:
you were talking to a tape recorder... there was no one behind the costume.

There were interesting moments - eg the young, clean-cut husband, when asked, in excellent English agreed he derived some pleasure from observing the topless and occasionally nude ladies on the beach whilst insisting his wife covered up at 34degrees c!
The wife's view of her 'situation' was largely 'well that's just the way it is - it's what I've always known'. I know she had a driving licence and they were both well educated and of 'comfortable means' at least. In conclusion - we could easily have been friends with the Dutch couple they were quite normal. ![]() |

I had to visit a property in Birmingham which a friend of mine owns. The tenants are muslims and only the wife dressed in full burka was at home when I got there. No problems with talking to her except I had difficulty understanding her very broad Glaswegian accent.
A somewhat bizzare encounter! |

I go in a posh french cafe near the US embassy. Often see fully clad ladies with their blokes in t shirt, combats, trainers and baseball cap.
For about 40 years I have always been baffled by the women being fully covered and the blokes looking like someone from Hawaii five o !!! Plenty of freedom for the geezers eh!!?? |

Unbelievable. I'm sure they do it on purpose simply to prove that they can do it and get away with it on the back of PC. |

My mate went to a fancy dress do on a stag weekend wearing a Burka. He fell over as he couldn't see properly through the slot. He broke his leg and missed the wedding .

Talk to them?
Christ no - much easier to demonise them |
|
By:
Like they demonise their own women - or even snowmen - hmmmmm!!!

tbh get too close and there is no way you can talk properly as the stench means you have to block your nose.

when i started working for 365 as call op many many years ago, i was paired up with this pretty little thing, she was lovely, helped me navigate the telebet system and was one of the best people to get paired up with. The first 5 days flew bye and i was soon allowed on me own.
The following week / weekend when we were back in, i sat down waiting for her to come in, but couldnt / hadnt seen her. I had no idea, she was sat directly opposite me with her burkha on, didnt have a clue it was her. Im still friends with her on facebook to this day. She had a dodgy arranged marriage it seems but is a proper stokie. If you closed you'r eyes and spoke to her, you'd have no idea she wasnt from Hanley. lol. |

not yet, and don't expect to in the near future..... |

I often say "hiya" to them if they walk past me, just so they think I've recognised them.

Parking my car about 12 years ago, a woman ran out of the house in the full garb screaming & shouting that I had hit her car, I replied I park here every day & your dent has been there for months, I then said I wont continue to argue with someone I cannot see & walked off.
