Interesting angle from the police,i pulled this off a police forum. It's hardly defining or to be taken as gospel but gives an intersting viewpoint.Sure it's a bit "man lands on moon" but makes you wonder how many genuine students were really at the demos.

I was working at last nights fun and games. Just to give you a first hand account, a large part of the trouble makers are anarchists and gangs of local London yobbos. Anarchists from all over Europe travelled to London to riot yesterday. Inside Parliament Square itself during the, err 'containment', gangs of 'yoofs' from north & south London roamed attacking and robbing genuine student protestors and also attacking photographers & news crews. Those genuine student protestors who unfortunately stayed until the vote was announced ended up being trapped in the same space as all the other assembled thugs & hooligans. Some of the poor buggers were absolutely terrified and not allowed to leave. These protests, and I've been at all of them, have been far from black & white in those attending and what has gone on. Unfortunately for the students, it all gets reported under the heading of students, and that is what the general populace reading and watching will associate it with.[/i]

The students are nothing but useful idiots for 'the usual suspects'.

The students will soon enough get bored with their days out in the big society and get back to ... hello... going to lectures and watching Cash in the Attic.

Oh, and not voting LibDum.

Don't recall this being posted, but it's pretty much spot on. Organisers spend ages on these things, and there is always a handful of extremists or just thugs who try to exploit it, give a terrible impression and tar all with the same brush.
