One of the few films, that is actually as good as it's lofty reputation. Classic!

Good film, a bit better than Mulholland Falls.

Good film / good book by James Ellroy too.

Really good film, not a big fan of Russell Crowe but he is very good in this.
Haven't seen it for ages, all about corruption and double dealings in the 50's,
some great performances, Crowe, Spacey, Guy Pearce and Kim Bassinger, DeVito.

It is one of the best films to watch.

Just like The Usual Suspects and Hangover - it was best to see it without anyone telling you anything about it - so everything comes as a surprise.

Just like Gladiator - it is a timeless piece of cinema that can be watched again and again and again

Great film - they had Ellroy as an advisor.  The LA Quartet books are unique - difficult in places though.  Reading them is like having someone hit your exposed brain with a plank.

They are bleaker/blacker than the film - as Hollywood generally does, they sweetened/tidied things up, eg the corrupt Irish-American detective dies in his bed in the book.  Evil is rarely punished in real life.

Possibly my favourite film of the last 20 years. Outdoes most of the classic films noirs. Brilliantly shot, well paced, nicely scripted, and best of all, great performances from Crowe, Spacey and Pearce (not to mention the rest of the cast). I've must have watched it 10+ times, and still love it.

Travesty it didn't win the Oscar for best picture.

just watched this properly for the first time , one of the best films ive probably seen

i say properly as that house where they visit the guy who runs the porn rings a bell and a few other bits , maybe i seen it on tv and flicked it before.could have seen bits and bobs when younger and not really followed it

spaceys name on casting was my mainly my reason for watching , but all cast is good , even danny devitoLaugh

Yep. Top class film

The Blue Dahlia with the real Veronica Lake is better.

"Evil is rarely punished in real life. "

Really? You should read the reports of Stalin on his death-bed. See Alan Bullock's book about Hitler and Stalin, "Parallel Lives."

This film should have had a CGI of Rita Hayworth in it.
