GvG..initially poorly, I just couldn't be bothered to get the sofa down, but I compensated by sneaking in a few more chairs, which they were very good about, so a minor score IMO

By:
They did, Sparky!
Or at least 'he' did: Gerry "With a G"! As I said, he was a very nice bloke and I thanked him for having the courtesy to make the call. |
By:
Sparky, I think the council footsoldiers who actually do the work are pretty good in general.
It's all the berks in the Town Hall who insist on this "10 items" baloney that complicate matters. |
By:
Glad the "Stoneman's Cavalry" had the decency call you T.T.
By the sounds of things they afforded you the respect you deserve. I know you're too much of a nice guy, but I'd be very tempted to say to Gerry... "You're call is very important to me, but do you mind if I put you on hold?" |
By:
lol GvG, quality stuff!

Tommy, as you and this thread have proven, the pub can never be demolished! Bedtimje for me now, shall see you on the other side!
By:
Ha ha, Graham!
To be honest, I very nearly didn't pick the 'phone up when it rang as I was having a drink with my neighbour and half expected it to be from the puddled woman I was with the day before! I'm glad I did answer it, though, and as I said, he gave me time to say what was about to happen on the old thread. I then left it for a while, expecting it to disappear, but he must have been waiting for me to open this before putting the blocks on the other place - as just after, Bodil couldn't post on it. |

By:
G'night, Sparky
By:
Cheers Sparkster!
Goodnight old chum. |
By:
Night Sparky!
Must say I'm impressed with Betfair's attitude. It's a reward to Tommy, whom I have never met, but who comes over as a perfectly nice bloke. |
By:
Tommy should be running the country, not a pub.
I shall write to the Daily Mail in the morning. |
By:
Off to bed myself now.
Day of reckoning for the Sky Blues. Brave New World or another false dawn? Whatever happens, this won't be beat this weekend: Highest English attendance |
By:
G'night, Graham
By:
Game, I was going to choose something else for this week, but to commemorate the old Horsebox's passing, I've gone for this instead:
'Ain't No Sunshine' by Bill Withers on the OGWT in 1971. |
By:
Cheers Muntz and Bill.
Goodnight Graham. |
By:
Goodnight Graham.
Tommy, I hope the food in here is better than I was served in a pub tonight. It had (brace yourself) courgettes in it. |
By:
It's been a good night, I've thoroughly enjoyed it.
You ought to get shut down more often, Tommy. It doesn't half drag the punters in. |
By:
Not courgettes Muntz!
Very good Bill! |
By:
What are courgettes? Is it a swearword?
By:
Sparky bought a bargain bagful of them the other week, Bill.
He was eating them for ages (although I still reckon one was a marrow!) |
By:
So he'll still be eating them tomarrow?
By:
Anyway, aside from running rings round the landlord, what else has been happening chez Tommy, this week?
By:
Very good Bill (tomarrow)!
Things have been a little hectic, as per, in Toes Towers this last few days Bill, but I'm nice and relaxed now. How are things with you? |
By:
Being hectic won't faze you, Tommy. You thrive on it.
As for me, I have an appointment of a romantic nature tomorrow evening. I will be wearing a tie. |
By:
'ey up!
Good for you Bill! Is she nice? |
By:
She is perfect, Tommy. Imagine an angel descending from a white cloud in a mist of delicate perfume, smiling in a way that sets your heart alight. You hear harps and bells. Your chest is tight, your mouth is dry.
Well, she's like that only funnier. |
By:
Excellent, Bill!
By:
How has your sister been lately? Did things go okay with her ex?
By:
smiling in a way that sets your heart alight
That rekindles some memories for me, Bill . . . |
By:
Do tell, Muntz...
By:
Game!
I've only just realised I didn't put the link up to this week's 'Tommy Toes Live Performance Of The Week'! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tIdIqbv7SPo |
By:
Thereby hangs a tale, Tommy. I'll tell it when Muntz does his.
By:
We were too embarrassed to point it out, Tommy!
Bill, she used to rotate her head slightly to the right, and tilt it slightly to the left, and smile, mostly with her eyes. She was, I suppose, a flawed character: she spent some time in Drake Hall, a place near Tommy's. She lived for a while near Muntz Street in Small Heath, and she's part of the reason for my screen name. I became a better person through knowing her. |
By:
What happened?
By:
What a nice post, Muntz.
Is Drake Hall the old army place near Eccleshall? |
By:
She died a few years ago, Bill. I still have her picture on my wall.
By:
Sorry to hear that Muntz.
By:
Thats the place, Tommy - I think it was part of Swynnerton munitions factory. (My mum worked there during WW2. She insisted that she helped make the shell that finally turned the tide of war against the Nazis). It's a women's prison now, or was when my friend was in it.
By:
- but not glad you still have her picture on the wall, obviously.
By:
That's sad, Muntz. I feel for you, mate, I really do.
