Still not been down south to confirm it, but Crackerjack is rumoured to have passed away.

At a guess he must have been in his mid to late 70s.

And he remains the only african who ever made me laugh.

R.I.P. Robert.

This is a recent one made me laugh, told to me by shop manager
Over Christmas last year a chap who in the shop they call the bouncing spitting man
( he bounces when he walks and spits when he talks ) came in early, he is a quiet man always smartly
dressed never seen with a woman. He placed his usual bet and left.
Now normally they would not see him again until the next day but my friend said just before closing time
there was herself and a female assistant in the shop when the door swings open and in he comes looking the worse for wear.
what you been up to they asked, you have lipstick all over your forehead naughty boy, he dashed in the gents for the mirror
as he came out my friend said she noticed the redness on his hands at the same time as he said " It's my eczema"

I don't really spend any time in bookies these days, so not sure I've got too much to add to this thread.  has there been one about those people that go in read the racing post, perhaps check up on a few obscure prices, use their toilet, nick a pen and then fk off after 5-10 minutes.  Cost that'd be me.

I could get this published - I have just re-read the whole lot about four years after it first went up and have tears of laughter running down my cheeks. Those were the days

£600 I got asked for it to be published, and I had to prove I owned it.

who wanted the £600? I've done a few books and know some experts in the copyright/royalties stuff. I would think that if you publish on the web then it is in the public domain, like all the stupid footy players getting done for tweeting comments that are then regurgitated in the papers, but if this did get published it would be good to have all the contributors on board for a round of drinks and the rest to charity

Got no chance of finding who posted this lot as it was pulled for some reason by the Federales a couple of years ago.

I had a copy of all the posts on my PC, but not the posters.

It has also been nicked from here for other fora.

In memory of Crackerjack:

ROBERT 'CRACKERJACK' AGIMBO.

About the only african I have any time for, he's now 70, and still makes me laugh today. He came into the shop in the early 70s, stood in the middle of the floor and proudly announced ' I have a dream'

Cue the jokes, and when they died down I asked him what his dream was.

He pointed to the Jackson and Lowe wall sheet and said quite loudly 'Dis hoss.... will win dis race.'

'Stick your money where your mouth is Robert' I told him.

He pulled out a tenner, a big bet back then, and walked to the counter with it between his teeth (his teeth are a story on their own).

He had 10 to win, not a fiver each way.

The horse was Bolkonski, and it won at 50-1.

Three weeks later he came back in and said he had had another dream. Everybody went silent and waited. He pointed out a 16-1 shot on the wall sheet, and slowly but surely most of the people who ridiculed him before Bokonski, backed this nag.

After the race, where the horse was nearer last than first, he pulled out a betting slip from L a d d i e s with a 3 bet on the winner at 6/1, and said ' You white people are so stoopid, as if I could dream a winner twice.'

And every person in the shop, even those who backed this nag, laughed their heads off.

great story
