Tony Sibson is a name from the past, he was a very game fighter.
Can't rememeber if I mentioned it before on the thread but I met Dave Boy Green at Fakenham one day, he has not aged well to put it mildly.

Seen him in Chatteris, he's a facking mess. Would easily get the part of the banjo player if they ever do a remake of Deliverance Laugh

Still does a fair bit for charity though. Happy
Report SlippyBlue • November 22, 2012 5:04 PM GMT
Indeed he does do charity gigs bless him, in fact he opened a care home recently that my sister in law runs near Bedford.

When I last saw him, he was completely ratar$ed before the second race. I had a little chat with him and he really is a lovely man and I felt very sad afterwards I must say to see the state he was in. Another gutsy boxer, heart of a lion he had in his pomp. I rememeber him very well.

'The Fen Tiger', not popular with cockney geezers Cool for beating John Stracey in 1977/78, but give him his due, he did it fair and square. The fight was stopped because of the bad cut over Johns left eye. He didn't need that defeat after losing his previous fight to Carlos Palomino, where he lost his WBC title. He only had one more fight after Green, a good while laer, knocking out a useless froggy boxer, then he retired.

Where did you keep going off to Tommy?
Report Tommy Toes • August 19, 2013 1:57 PM BST
Well, as you've asked, Colly, I've tried to do some research - from 8 years ago!

June 30th 2005 was a Thursday.
I still have an old 2005 racing diary and from looking at that there were no major meetings on that week so I therefore doubt I had to go because I was having a bet/studying the form.

Every alternate Thursday at that time meant my mother was having 4 units of blood transfused, which meant a tiny bit of peace for a few hours twice a month (although I was always expecting a 'phone call from the hospital that it had gone wrong that particular time - so only a small bit of peace), so if Thursday 30th June 2005 was a transfusion day I'd have been relishing having a bit of time to do whatever I wanted to do - and not having to rush off anywhere.

So, to keep with the boxing theme, I can only surmise that my mother wasn't in hospital but was doing her usual impression of Chuck Wepner in his 'Bayonne Bleeder' guise - and I was mopping up the blood, as usual!

James Toney on Prizefighter on Sky

James Toney's pre-fight antics have fired up his British rivals ahead of Thursday night's heavyweight Prizefighter.

Toney, a multi-weight champion, is renowned for his fiery reputation and has already upset a number of the entrants ahead of the Team UK vs. Team USA tournament, live on Sky Sports.

The American veteran faces Matt Legg in the second quarter-final, but Tom Little has vowed to dish out a humbling defeat to Toney if he gets past his first opponent Brian Minto.

Live on Sky Sports

    Live Prizefighter Boxing

Little said: "He was disrespectful and rude to the UK boxers, barely acknowledging us and wanting his own changing room away from all the other boxers.

"I will make him pay for what he said and is saying about us UK boys. The other American boxers were all pleasant and nice guys, but it won't stop me beating them up."

Me too kenny. I was thinking of having Klitschko but perhaps optimistically was looking for much better than 1/4. Might have to back donkey Fury now!

Been watching quite a bit of old boxing recently, maybe even a few fights from this thread (if Foreman-Lyle hasn't been mentioned, what a 'kin scrap that was!) but this documentary on the Gatti-Ward trilogy stands out and almost had me in tears a few times. HIGHLY recommended if anyone hasn't seen it:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TYtCZDqepzE

You know what? I'm gonna watch it again now! Also saw an excellent one called Facing Ali which had interviews with 10 of his opponents. Must see stuff for fans of the Greatest, but not on youtube unfortunately.

Nice bump!
Report Eeternaloptimist • November 25, 2015 12:38 AM GMT
I'm as interested in the fight this weekend as I've been for any fight probably since Lewis/Vitali. I just don't know how good the current crop is but I can't get away from seeing that crazy bum Fury going southpaw and humiliating Rogan I think it was. I know this game is about levels but has anybody known any fighter fight orthodox throughout their career and then switch in an individual fight and batter their opponent? I'm certainly struggling to think of this at heavyweight. Wlad is still the chinny guy who got blitzed by Brewster and the South African whose name momentarily escapes me. He just subsequently got taught defence by a master in Manny.

Really, really looking forward to this marking time fight. Until Joshua fulfills his potential.

Oh and for a complete, you won't believe it, slugfest, you'd have to go a way to beat Foreman/Lyle.
Report Mikael D'Haguenet • November 25, 2015 12:49 AM GMT
Samuel Peter had Wlad down three times I think EO, if that's who you mean. Not certain he was S African though. Maybe Nigeria?
Report kenny mann • November 25, 2015 12:50 AM GMT
This is a great head to head between the 2 fighters, Eeternal', in which Tyson shows supreme confidence.

I'd be very surprised if he wins though, despite the big age difference.

Too many unknowns for me kenny,3 years ago would think Fury would be able to outbox and evade but Wilder has the 1 punch KO power to take anybody out even later in the fight can Fury avoid it who knows?

Report kenny mann • November 24, 2018 11:54 AM GMT
It's a tough one to call Denzil, but I think Wilder will nail Fury late on. His record is incredible, although presumably doesn't include any fighters of real note. 40 fight, 39 knockouts.
