I was 5 and we were on our 1st foreign holiday, in Spain (Malgrat, I think). I was in a cafe/bar with my dad and grandad while the match was being played. Apparently the bar was full of German tourists and (not that I remember any of this) we left VERY soon after the end of the match.

I was nearly 15, and just like today, I had no interest in watching football, so I never saw any matches.

This is a weird blank in my life. From the age of ten I supported my local team, Brentford,so I was aware of football. But I remember absolutely nothing about the world cup.It can only be the emergence of sex and drugs and rock and roll or possibly my parents kept me locked in the coal cellar.
Report bodil March 29, 2015 12:38 AM GMT
To a degree it was WW2 working out again - including the Russian linesman - and with the same correct result.  Only 21 years after the horror.  Interesting to see how the Greeks are going to resurrect matters - legitimately, I believe.

England were the first team to play all their final matches at the national stadium.
Not sure you could call it cheating but with that and the help of the linesman ................
Anyways I'm not bitter about it so well done. Cry

I saw it.  We were on holidays in a seaside resort in the west of Ireland and it was our last day.  There were few TVs in the town.  We located one in the guests lounge in a local hotel and sat on the carpet.  The owner came in and said he would put us out, but the guests said to leave us there.  Great.

I saw  Eusebio at white hart lane when the Eagles of Lisbon (Benfica played Spurs in a European comp) he was woeful, his one shot on goal hit the corner flag. Unlucky to have caught him on an off day, a fantastic player, and the only one I have ever seen applaud a goalie (Gordon Banks) for denying him in the world cup. Now days they hold their head in their hands when they fck up as if their entire family has been massacred, can't stand the modern game.
