I remember when his cousin was running at Belmont and he told me to put everything on it. It won easy and I made a fortune.

Mr. Ed was notorious for forgetting his lines. If you look closely you can see he's wired up to an earpiece.

It's quite true that Mr.Ed was the daddy. I think he was also the only talking animal to make phone calls during the show. Sadly towards the end of his career you can see his eyes swiveling round looking for the cue cards and when his timing went all the jokes about Wilbur had to have canned laughter added.

Huckleberry Hound. How could a talking dog be so boring? Even Muttley had more memorable quotes, and he couldn't talk at all.
I think he used to say sassafras d1ck dastardly or something and yeh yeh yeh yeh yeh. Then there are those dogs that are able to tell the grown ups that Timmy's fallen down the mineshaft. |

Scooby Doo couldn't say much, but that irritating little fecker of a nephew of his, Scrappy Doo always had plenty of lip on him.

not quite a dog, and not quite talking
but Skippy the Bush Kangaroo (all together now, Skippy, Skippy, Skippy the bush kangaroo, Skippy, Skippy, Skippy ... I don't know any more) gets my vote ... "What's that Skippy?" ... click click click from Skippy ... "What, little Timmy's fallen in a mineshaft, 4 miles up the road, and the map co-ordinates are ... etc" Apparently he originally trained as a guide kangaroo to assist blind people, but his blind masters had to ride on a space hopper to keep up with him ... didn't work, really. (sorry, not trying to demean blind people) |
