Hsn't been a good film since Shawshank.
By:
why do so many films have people getting killed in them?? is that what people want to see? wierdos
By:
Not since they forgot stories needed a beginning, middle and end.
By:
tough guys a good film, old but a classic
By:
Sir Denis, I had no idea what was going on in that film. Most puzzled when the credits started rolling.
By:
thats true mrgrumpy. its very easy to come up with a beginning, slightly harder a middle, and very difficult an end
By:
its a load of cr@p - i just started thinking 'why the hell am i watching a load of people getting shot in the head???''
By:
it's you.
By:
obviously not going by the replies
By:
so far the replies have made no case to the contrary. If you are confused by the plot of no country then you would most likely be confused by the plot of Cinderella too.
Let's have your top 10 films of all time then... GO! |
By:
You're right mate, most films are shiit.
By:
Well siad Sir Denis. No Country for Old Men was one of the dullest films I have ever had the misfortune to stay awake through. Absolutley no substance. Joined Lovefilm a few months ago and have to say that the only good recent film I have watched has been In Brugge. That has violence, but a bit of a plot a nice bird and some humuor.
By:
Oh dear Budvar... In Bruge. A film about hitmen trying to bump each other off.
I am afraid Sir Eton has you firmly in the 'Weirdo' column. |

only saw no country for old men the other day, thought it was really good
By:
^^ Which one is the king of the rubbish?
By:
Ooh, this is good. So we have established that good films are confined to the genre of revisionist historiographies. Good, good, we're making progress.
By:
Did No Country for Old Men really win the best picture Oscar? Dear lord. I would hate to have seen the one that came second.
Hot Fuzz did make laugh enough to watch it three times in a row. I was completely trolleyed mind. |
By:
Jean de florette, Memento & Quadrophenia 3 top films.
By:
ah come on now barry, schindlers list only ok, that straight away made me dismiss your list completely
By:
a poor list indeed barry, shame on them
By:
ah come on now barry, schindlers list only ok, that straight away made me dismiss your list completely
it's not even in colour, ffs |
By:
oh and the departed only ok, and american beauty rubbish, nonsense, two quality films, both fully deserved their oscars
By:
donny osmond 11 Jan 14:54 ah come on now barry, schindlers list only ok, that straight away made me dismiss your list completely it's not even in colour, ffs Is your name McG?!! If so I have a bone to pick with you about breaking poor old Mr Bales fragile little mind! |
By:
Schindlers list in Black and White? What's the point? Made it look like something from the History Channel. Would have been much more shocking in colour.
And American Beauty. What was wrong with that guy? Anyone would have been there like a rat up a drainpipe. That woofter Spacey probably changed the script! |
By:
Braveheart and Gladiator, 'brilliant'?
Are you a 14 year old Scottish lad, BC? |
By:
you are so sophisticated barry in your critique!!
By:
schindlers list would not have had the same impact if it was in color, it's an amazing piece of cinema, with some of the finest acting you're likely to see, have to say the only one on your list i would agree with is gladiator, everything else i think you have completely wrong. imo of course
By:
Of course you are welcome to your opinion. I also deliberately try to play down my critiques of these films. Hollywood is full of idiots who walk round with their heads up their anuses. Why else would Scorcese be ignored for so long? Why devote more attention to them than they deserve?
By:
i think a good test to the films above is wheter you can watch them again in their entirity . I certainly couldn't watch 'No country for old men' or Braveheart again.
By:
as ever with these things there are some great films about, just that the hollywood style stuff is so lame, predictable and safe it makes them not worth watching.
By:
i really enjoyed no country... thought it built great suspense and was a good watch.
barry did make a good point, the Oscars a re a joke, and the biggest travesty i have ever seen is when titanic beat la confidential for best screen play. |
By:
It is a pretty poor list, though.
By:
^^ yep. LAC is superb
By:
if you want to see a real good film about the halocaust see
hopkins in QB VII |
By:
A Beautiful Mind Film about maths.
Sounds so boring but its one of the BEST films I've seen, not boring at all and has a twist even though its a true story. --------------------------------------------------------------- Has anyone seen "The Curious case of Benjamin Button?" I haven't seen it but it seems a quirky film that could be good. |
By:
films just don't grip me any longer .. most have similar storylines
last decent one i watched was seven |
By:
i would say 9 in 10 films are very poor
By:
I thought No Country was disappointing too. I love the Coen Brothers so was expecting a lot better. I'd agree that most of those films listed are gash, or at least overrated, including Braveheart and Gladiator. Easily the best of them is Unforgiven for me.
