2 sides of A4.

Name, Personal Details, Education, Work History (most recent first), Skills (eg. computer programmes, welding, driving licence etc), Interests (if applicable, perhaps not required for some jobs) and References (i just put available on request)

Don't think CV's are such a big deal. Just make sure that the relevant stuff is bold and jumps out at you for instance relevant experience, qualifications etc. It isn't rocket science.

Don't make any spelling mistakes though.

keep it to 1 page.

Move the margins in word right out to the extremes of the page and make it look attractive (get someone with an interest in design and typography to take a look at it)

Ways to save space:

Instead of putting your name and address thus:

Gordon Brown
10 Downing Street
Londinium
W1A 1AA

0207 123 1234
07000 000 000

put it thus:

Gordon Brown
10 Downing Street - Londinium - W1A 1AA
Tel: 0207 123 1234 Mob: 07000 000 000

Better this way. Saves space.

Do as much as you can to get it onto 1 page.

monster.co.uk has sample cv's and templates on its site, and I expect the other big job agencies are the same.

Come to think of it, Microsoft has cv templates for Word available for download (and you can also download the beta-test version of Office).

You might need to know that the American for cv is resume.

Put your work experience before academic qualifications unless you are a recent graduate (doesn't look like you are).
