Sugar Ray Robinson, big man - Sugar Ray Robinson.

too early for Charlie still sleeping

Exhausted after last night's superhuman quizzering effort. :)
Report Velasquez • January 8, 2010 10:19 AM GMT
Whut? I thought Big Charlie would be in the gym, shedding those extra pounds gained over the Winterval holiday.

Are you saying then, Cap, that Big Charlie is NOT a pro boxer?

Part 2 on now - some dodgy Chinese promoter is fixing fights - Kon Ding. Sugar Ray is well turned out. I'm after one of those grey suits.

Nosy lot of fackers answering a thread addressed to me from my Spanish/Polish fellow boxing fan.

Vel, being a poor man I only have one Freeview box, (no Sky) but lost 'Quest' in the last retune when it decided to pack up for a day or so.

We also lost 'Dave', which is allegedly 'the home of witty banter'

I have been on the polly ticks forum this morning, as I do every day now, telling the stupid what's wrong with this country.

Nobody takes any notice though, they get my threads pulled instead.

Somebody on here yesterday on the 'who is the hardest actor' thread was hyping up Jack Palance as a heavyweight boxer. I put him straight, JP had one 'pro' fight, under the name of Jack Brazzo, which he lost.

Vel, can't you get your God to intervene?
Report Velasquez • January 8, 2010 1:23 PM GMT
And furthermore, Big Charlie, it seems that Bruce Lee studied the Clay / Ali V Cleveland Williams fight - studying Ali's footwork to use in his films. That was a 2 part Mission Impossible - even in a cool suit, Sugar Ray looked like he could sort out the boxers in the ring.
Report Velasquez • January 8, 2010 1:29 PM GMT
Orioles - er, I'm not sure I should help in staging an -- INTERVENTION !! -- but I will freely offer this advice to you and anyone who cares to listen :

"Ne'er cast a clout 'til May is oot."

There. I've said it. And I'm glad I said it.
Report Capt__F • January 8, 2010 1:30 PM GMT
Is a clout a ganzy ?
Report Velasquez • January 8, 2010 1:32 PM GMT
I don't know what a GANZY is, so, sadly, I can't pontificate on the matter.
Report Capt__F • January 8, 2010 1:38 PM GMT
jumper/sweater ur Holiness

Wise words, Vel, and an apt proverb in these chilly days. As they say over here; en avril, ne te decouvre pas d'un fil, mais en mai, fais ce qui te plait.

Disappointed the big man isn't on call :|
Report Velasquez • January 8, 2010 1:44 PM GMT
Thank you, my son.

Now that you've informed me, I am willing to pontificate on the matter. I would say that a "clout" in this context denotes a heavier item, like a winter coat, and we hardy Scots would rather go b0llock naked underneath, rather than wear a Val Doonican-like cardie that might give off slightly gay signals, especially if it's mauve lamb's wool.
Report orioles • January 8, 2010 1:48 PM GMT
I'm wearing my mauve lamb's wool cardigan as we speak :|
Report Velasquez • January 8, 2010 1:51 PM GMT
Wash it gently my son, or the shrinkage will only make your ganzie fit for your pet monkey.
Report orioles • January 8, 2010 1:55 PM GMT
Willy warmer?
Report Big Charlie • January 8, 2010 1:56 PM GMT
He wont make 'er colder.
Report Velasquez • January 8, 2010 1:57 PM GMT
Oh hold on -- JEREMIAH 33.3 -- "Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know."

AKA "God's phone call."

It is my understanding, Orioles, that the Dublin-based folk combo called "U2" have issued forth a song for the young people called UNKNOWN CALLER, based on this verse. I am not sure "unsearchable riches" and the politics forum mix well, though...

THIS THREAD WILL SELF-DESTRUCT IN FIVE SECONDS.
Report Velasquez • January 8, 2010 2:23 PM GMT
It's not very green. Today, the silver haired guy chucked the tape into the boating pond where it probably released toxic chemicals.
Report Big Charlie • January 8, 2010 3:19 PM GMT
WTF ?
Report Tommy Toes • January 8, 2010 3:52 PM GMT
I think it must be PLARKOTEX related, Big Charlie.
Report Big Charlie • January 8, 2010 4:54 PM GMT
It should be, Tommy.

If this mystery deepens I shall have to call POIROT
Report Velasquez • January 8, 2010 7:50 PM GMT
BTW - Sugar Ray Robinson was called WESLEY in this episode. He was a henchman for Kon Ding. He killed a guy like this : he pushed a button on the lift then pretended to drop his wallet. When the lift door opened, Sugar Ray pushed the guy and he fell down the lift shaft.

Despicable.

And I thought Tyson was a duurty fighter. I just want you to know, Big Charlie, that if you ever tangle with me, I will not hesitate to push you down a dark lift shaft - AND THE SAME GOES FOR YOU, TOMMY TOES! OH YES!

Orioles I will spare...for now...
Report Big Charlie • January 8, 2010 10:20 PM GMT
I have no fear of lift shafts, I carry a 1942 wartime parachute (unused) wherever I go. It folds up smaller than a 1960s Pacamac.
Report Velasquez • January 8, 2010 10:24 PM GMT
Sh1t! You are so resourceful, Big Charlie.

When you say you take it EVERYWHERE...do you really mean EVERYWHERE?
Report Velasquez • January 8, 2010 10:26 PM GMT
Sugar Ray -- he just PUSHED the poor guy. It was disgustin'. I see Sugar Ray a bit differently now.
Report Big Charlie • January 8, 2010 10:59 PM GMT
Me and my parachute stick together, in the shower, or even when I go potholing.
