disk clean up says 'compress old files' to free up space, is this safe to do or will I lose some important stuff? Thanks for any help.

Put a call out for Tommy Toes, he's a genius with this sort of thing.
Perfectly safe but if you need to access those old files they will be slower to open as they'll need to be decompressed.
Better to clear up some space or add another dirve to be honest.

Do a search using file size as a criteria, you're bound to have some massive files you no longer need.
Of course, if you have 'important stuff' it's already backed up somewhere safe anyway...
