Perhaps God was an 'Alien' then. How about that theory.

Dragon, out of interest (and I'm not trying to be mischievous) would you say any of the following are familiar to you:
Exons Junk DNA Self-splicing introns. And could you also say whether you believe in natural selection? |

By:
Either this guy is a positively HEROIC troll, or he really believes what he types. Confused now.

Ovalman, you must be an "Alliance" voter. ;)

this has nothing to do with God or the Bible or anything like that, my asserstion is that evolution is atheory just like all other "beliefs" and not PROVEN as some people herald it to be

It's a matter of statistical significance like pretty much all theories. I think that if you read enough about the facts of biology you can be convinced to an arbitrary level of surety. I think you also have something to think about if you reject the God hypothesis as it is statistically ridiculous that the species formed independently with so many similarities.

Evolution can be a slippery concept and is often misunderstood. But it is not really that tricky.
Just look at dog breeding. Over many generations traits regarded as desirable are bred in and traits regarded as undesirable are bred out. The result is, that from the grey wolf gene pool (thought to be the origin of all our dogs), you get all the various breeds of dog from Great Danes to chihuahuas, St Bernards to whippets, which all reman part of the same species. See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Origin_of_the_domestic_dog As with dog, the same is true of all domesticated animals and plants. Humans have taken the wild stock and intentionally bred them with the hope of encouraging desirable characteristics in the offspring. Who wants an aggressive, thin, flighty sheep when you can have a passive, fat, docile one? Who wants a small, sour apple when you can have a plump, sweet one? If these different strains of a species existed in the wild they might eventually, after many generations, become different species. Now obvously in nature there is no farmer controlling the breeding process. But in effect (though emphatically not by design) natural selection performs a similar job by determining which individuals breed successfully by dint of their fitness for their particular environment (ie those charcteristics that do not fit an environment hinder the individual's ability to survive and breed). Whatever characteristics help the individual survive and thrive are thus "bred in" by nature and those that hinder survival are "bred out". Incidentally, I have alluded here to the famous phrase the "survival of the fittest" which is often misunderstood to imply a violent, dog-eat-dog kind of process. What the phrase originally meant, however, was merely that those animals who survived were by definition the ones who were best fitted to their environment. |

I would tend to vote for the UUP when I can be bothered.

By:
thats fine and interesting slarty but does not explain the origin of the species :)
By:
a theory is quite different from a hypothesis - hence the reason it is true and evidence supports it
By:
Why do you look similar but not exactly the same as your parents Dragon?

Gene recombination.

With regard to wild dogs, there are two species in North America, the wolf and the coyote. These species can, and do, interbreed, producing offspring that are half wolf, half coyote. So why are there two species? What keeps them separate?

By:
Drag, I thought your problem was with evolution as a general explanation for the biological forms on earth. Or is it just with evolution leading to man?
By:
i think you are misunderstanding my point here, undoubtedley animals, plants, humans etc change for a whole variety of reasons, what i cannot have as fact is the theory that we evolved over an incedibly long period of time from tiny amabos or whatever. it just does not fit
By:
What doesn't it fit?
By:
Gd q, wur. Could it be that while they can and sometimes do interbreed that it is a trait posessed only by a minority of indiviuals or occurring only under certain unusual circumstances? Mere speculation obviously.
By:
dont know what the answer is but evolution is only one theorY AMONG MANY, SOME OF WHICH i probably have never heard of
By:
Through the past few thousand years (since the 5,000 year that the bible says) we have evolved, we have grown less hair and our tonsils are receding.
By:
with the complex and wide variation of like on planet earth
By:
Drag, if you can understand how evolution applies to animals and plants why can you not understand how it might apply to human animals?
As an explanation, how does evolution "not fit" the reality of a wide variety of life on earth? |
By:
My hair's receding, Ovalman :(

what i cannot have as fact is the theory that we evolved over an incedibly long period of time from tiny amabos or whatever. it just does not fit Why not, dont forget during the ice age..your grand parents had wooly coats |
By:
well take the human body, it is so complex and amazingly intricate i just cannot see how this "evolved" just by chance, just doesnt stack up to me
By:
Human body is very similar to chimpanzee.......why would your imagined God....make a Human and a Chimpanzee....?
They are similar because they evolved down different paths from a common ancestor... |
By:
if you read what i said leopard i am not talking God here i am questioning the validity of the FACTUAL nature of the evolutionary THEORY
By:
common ancestor..but chimps and apes left behind?
By:
Left behind? They evolved to in a different direction from that common ancestor.
By:
incredible bit of fishing here.
The idea that evolution is illogical is simply laughable. The concept of billions of minor mutations over billions of years leading life from a simple amino acid to sentient beings is not simple or easy. It is neither illogical or without foundation. Plenty of evidence exists of mutations good and bad, and on the micro level we can see a virus evolve. Of course it is not fact; we can only see that there is a bulk of evidence in favour of evolution, and that there are no rival theories that have any supporting empirical evidence. |
By:
Even at an insect level it has been demonstrated in the lab that evolution can be forced upon a species by altering the environment.

Dragon, Did u see the thing on dogs last nite where they bred the aggression out of foxes in 8 generations making them more 'dog like'. This is evolution on fast forward. Pretty sure u are on a wind up btw Dragon, this was the fox thing I spoke of.........can't believe you are still at this! Slow day? |

My guess is that we were designed and created by a superior force. It doesn't matter what we call that force.

bored pers snowed in and stinking cold to boot :(

If that cold hadn't mutated you wouldn't have had it. :)

my mate's mother in law has put a lot of weight on over the years and she now walks EXACTLY like a gorilla. It's uncanny.

the gait is not a bit like a gorilla, it's EXACTLY the same. proof.
