Murphy was certainly the bravest actor but if you were in a dark alley with a couple of unsavoury characters and it was about to kick off who would you want by your side? a 5,5 Murphy or a 6,2 Marvin or 6,4 Palance. Certainly wouldnt be Audie Murphy.

Murphy was brave but he did use a tank.
Can the people mentioned on here have weapons?
If so, Judi Dench with a bazooka.

brodie, lol good one ,..........but no tank this time............Following its participation in the Italian campaign, the 3rd Division landed in Southern France[5] on August 15, 1944 as part of Operation Anvil-Dragoon.[5] Shortly thereafter, Murphy's best friend, Lattie Tipton (referred to as "Brandon" in Murphy's book To Hell and Back), was killed by a German soldier in a machine gun nest who was feigning surrender.[1] Murphy went into a rage,[1] and single-handedly wiped out the German machine gun crew which had just killed his friend.[1] He then used the German machine gun and grenades to destroy several other nearby enemy positions.[1] For this act, Murphy received the Distinguished Service Cross[1] (second only to the Medal of Honor). During seven weeks of fighting in that campaign in France, Murphy's division suffered 4,500 casualties.[5]

boxfox, why have you posted about "define"?

Bruce Willis play hard men but there is nothing really to suggest he is hard. Suppose you could define it as who you think would be the best in a fight. Would fancy Murphy to take alot of the current acting 'hard-men' who just play hard men. But against other guys who were also war hero's like Marvin and Palance you would have to fancy them.

Roquebrune, Oh dear,Oh,dear, try this..Any resemblance between your reality and mine is purely coincidental.............................. alternatively you could lie down in a darkened room for a while. Hope this helps.

Gotta go guys thanks for the fun, laters!

P.S, Roquebrune I like you. You remind me of myself when I was young and stupid.

Palance was a pro.heavyweight boxer in the early 1940's
.

This was to hype-up Palances career notes.

I asked imdb to correct that some time ago, it looks like they haven't.

Jack only had one fight as a 'pro' and lost it on points to Joe Baksi.

He had 60 fights, lost 9, and only fought a few 'names'

He beat Lee Savoid just once in their 3 fights, lost to Jersey Joe Walcott 6 years before Joe became champ, and in 1948 he was stopped by Ezzard Charles.

The only british names he beat were Freddie Mills (light heavy) in 1946 and Bruce Woodcock 1947, both fights were at the Harringay Arena in London.

Baksi never got a world title shot as he was far from world class.

I've seen Murphy in films, he didn't look that big.

Actors are actors, but Seagal is a bona-fide martial artist.

Iirc, a director made a bet with somebody that he could make Seagal a star, which he did.

At 6 feet 5 and with a plethora of martial arts skills at hand, Murphy, along with his bravery gongs, ends up in a dumpster.

Baksi did, not Palance.

Gotta be Sylvester Stallone, innit?

[i]Fight scenes in Sylvester Stallone's new movie were so realistic that he broke his neck during filming, the actor says in a magazine interview.

The 63-year-old said a fight scene with the wrestling star Stone Cold Steve Austin became so "vicious" that he needed an operation for a hairline fracture and had a metal plate inserted in his neck.

Stallone, a writer and director on the film, told this month's FHM Magazine: "Man, it was seven guys, kicking each other's ass, one guy tougher than the next

wasnt really meaning Seagal obviously Charlie when I said 'alot' more like guys like Bruce Willis, Daniel Craig and Matt Damon action hero types.

But Palance was still a heavyweight boxer or are you saying he wasnt?

If you saw 'First Blood', and the leap from the cliffs onto the trees, Stallone did that instead of a stuntman, and he broke his ribs.

i would hazard a guess that certain actors were hard in real life, or certainly not to be trifled with:
james cagney
robert mitchum
robert carlyle
charles bronson
