I don't know if this is the cause of your problem, but my freezer part of my fridge-freezer always 'knocks off' in these kind of temperatures, as it's situated in an unheated part of the house and the thermostat reacts when the outside temperature is very cold.

could be tom.appliance in garage!!how do you get round problem?the fridge bit is colder than freezer, hence food not freezing

Goss, it just regulates itself. You'll find when the temperature picks up, the freezer will kick in again.

- that's by my experience.
If your food is defrosting in your freezer, you may have a different problem.
