she did her share , she put the country right , showed other countries not to try pushing us round and that a British Passport holder did have back up when violated ...lots of flag waving ..No half-hearted measures with her when the Troops needed Govt back-up and equipment ...
How things change :-(

Thay went to the Falklands on the SS Canbera FFS - and although that might be a twisted way of proving your point (Jacuzzi's for the Pongoes before giving Diego a good thrashing) I doubt it had the anti-aircraft power to stop a squadron of Pucaras

you can't always be popular when doing the right thing and being decisive about difficult decisons.
Maggie pulled this country up by its boot laces kicking and screaming into the 20th century.prior to that we were the laughing stock of the developed world(sadly we find ourselves in the same situation once again)People have short memories and forget how bad things once were prior to the Maragrat Thatcher era.For example People complain about BT now but it was run by the GPO you had to wait over 6 months for a phone line FFS!

Yep ..everyone was going to have to pay their way .
Not just Mum + Dad ,the layabouts lying around at Mum + Dads place would have had to go out and earn some cash to pay their own way in life .
Novel idea ..Pay your Way ....Was deemed unpopular because there are so many layabouts about ,who can make a lot of noise when the 4 letter word "WORK" or the words "Pay Your Way" come into their lives.

Joe what griped me was the fact they used Scotland to see if it worked for a year before the rest of the UK.

Poll Tax ...Lets put it simply another way :-

1 Old Lady in an old house that has been in the Family for a 100 years pays £1500 council tax ..altho her bin takes 3 weeks to fill .

1x Family of Mum+ Dad (1 or both working) + 3 non-working descendants / teenagers early 20's living with them ..-- eating ,drinking , ditching lots of beer cans + wine bottles in the 2x Dust Bins... ..pays same £1500.

but under Poll Tax
everyone pays say £500 each.
Old Lady £500
Family £2,500
Nett Council take £3,000 same as before .
But imo MUCH MUCH fairer !!
and 3 layabouts having to seek gainful employment ,as Mum + Dad finally get the excuse to make them go out to pay their way . ;-)

Yes, it was SO much fairer, JJ.
What a brilliant example.

To answer original Q.
No.
She (almost single-handedly) made the country what it is today, and all the subsequent idiots maintained what she started.
Eventually history will show her to have been the self-serving, embezzling, tyrannical, despotic liar she was.

Oh yes we gave a tinpot south american dictatorship a shoeing when they invaded the Falklands, strange how we didn't respond in quite the same way when the USA invaded Grenada.

In addition to study's points, her ability to dismantle industries & crush communities was/is unforgivable. Anyone with as much contempt for society as she has deserves the hatred she breeds.

Blair, Thatcher's lost illegitimate son.
Between them they've come close to taking the UK back to victorian times, only without the empire.
I dread seeing what will happen if the next batch of old-etonians get their way.

The list of bad things the old harridan did is so long we all know some of it. Even those of us in denial. Worst and most damaging was possibly privatising everything.

Now left with a basket case for a country.

If subsequent goverments thought it was a bad idea(including labour)They didn't have to continue with it.
Personally i think its the best thing to happen to this country.
like i said in a previous post if you think BT is bad now it was absolutly diabolicle before privatisation. The unions were killing this country and Thatcher took them head on and turned this country around. The 80's were the best years of my life and I made an absolute pile.which more than i can say for the last decade

The unions weren't "Killing this country" at all. They were trying to get decent wages and conditions for MILLIONS of people.
Typically and selfishly, your personal wealth (probably coincidence to government) dictates your rose-coloured view of Thatcher and her wickedness.

btw I worked for BT (then just the post office) just before privatisation.
It was fine. The biggest difference was the introduction of System X (digital) exchanges, which completely altered the way telephony works. This was ready to be rolled out in 1979, but was deliberately held back until privatisation was completed. So, it was paid for by the public, and profited upon by a few well heeled Tories.

A massive con.

In the process of ''smashing the unions'' she single handledly demolished the manufacturing industry.
Sold off the council houses and all the nationalised industries that belonged to us, but what did we get out of it? **k all, coz it went to the fat cats again, along with the north sea oil profits.

Not according to the customers, just the looney left that worked there, that wanted to do sweet FA all day long.
6 months to get a phone line FFS!!!
And the royal mail is a remaining relic of that era
