At the moment there are people with degrees earning less than £17 an hour! Not to look down on anyone cleaning, but even in boom times I'd have reckoned £12 an hour top whack if it was being declared.
Report Bamboo • January 6, 2010 11:02 AM GMT
Unbelievable really it`s almost day light robbery, targetting the elderly apparently. It`s almost most rogue traderish £17 p/h but people are paying it especially the wealthy elderly people.where there is muck there is money!
Report Bamboo • January 6, 2010 11:03 AM GMT
Agree with you HRH £12 would be top whack

£17 an hour? Right I'm starting a cleaning business. This should be easy. Print flyers and card, ad in local paper etc. Pay someone cash in hand £6 per hour.

No messing about.
Report prufrock • January 6, 2010 11:45 AM GMT
£8 to £10. Put an ad in recently for 4 hours' cleaning at a level rate of £35 (£8.75 an hour) and had people queuing up.
Report Tex AxiLe • January 6, 2010 11:47 AM GMT
Get plenty of willing workers, but you really need to be careful who you trust in your house when your not there imho.
Report Bamboo • January 6, 2010 11:48 AM GMT
there is another company operating nearby who charge about £30 ph but you always get a gang of cleaners (2 or 3)

You don't mind paying the extra then mate?
Report Dealem.... • January 6, 2010 12:29 PM GMT
what are you all talking about, people dont come and clean for 8 hour shifts FFS.

if someone has to get ready, come round, work and get dirty, go home, get cleaned and then get on with their own day then how can they do that for less.

a good cleaner that can be trusted is pricelss imo.

£15-£20 for an hours good work is perfectly acceptable.
Report Jimbo747 • January 6, 2010 12:32 PM GMT
Mine charges £10, but uses her own vacuum and cleaning products.

Had a cleaner through a company. I was charged 12.50 ph for her.

One day I just asked her how much she got. She said 6.00. Sacked the company and took her on for 8
Report Bamboo • January 6, 2010 12:45 PM GMT
lol Maria .The cleaner would be for the high jump if they(the agency) ever found out
Report Tex AxiLe • January 6, 2010 12:47 PM GMT
We used to have a cleaner, but believe it or not Mrs Tex used to clean up before the cleaner came, and would use phrases like " don't make a mess , the cleaner is coming " FFS

I remember at uni in first year, I lived in halls of residence with 5 other lads and used to have a cleaner. Refused to clean most weeks as it was too messy and halls manager threated to evict us.

TBF it was an absolute sh!thole
