Since exceeding my 10gb allowance with BT in the last 2 months have downloaded a Broadband usage package to measure activity. With nothing downloaded, and no other activity( eg.music e-mails etc) there are periods where 1mb of data per minute is being downloaded/uploaded? - but not by me! All security measures are in place - and I'm not on a wireless hub( so no 'stealing' going on in that respect).
Anyone else experienced similar problems. Any solutions ?
(BT - no help btw)

why have you not got unlimited usage ?

not much price difference.

Could be spyware or a virus.

Have you got a decent virus scanner and run malwarebytes?

The solution... Get Virgin broadband imo
Report everythings gone green • January 5, 2010 5:49 PM GMT
Virgin is crap.

I'd like to throttle Beardy just like he throttles people who have the audacity to actually use his service.
Report ROCKIN HORSE • January 5, 2010 5:55 PM GMT
I have that problem with them, they have changed their throttling rules I think,if you are on a torrent site downloading, it gets immediatly throttled if on peak,as soon as you come off its back to normal, used to be capped for hours, this is fairer, must have been losing loads of customers, fibre optic doesn't suffer from BT oversubscibed bottlenecks which is probably causing above problems for original poster

I would expect that the companies put routines in the software which deliberately upload and download rubbish precisely to push you over the edge. Dressed up as some sort of security nonsense (like body scanning underpants at airports) it's unnecessary but costs you.

I was one of the first 1000 fibre optic users in the country.

After the teething problems were ironed out it was great.

Then Beard Face bought the company.

Things got steadily worse so I ditched him and his beard 17 months ago just after Virgin said they were going to snoop on file sharers.

The government brought in legislation for packet scrutiny on all accounts to be held for 18 months on the back of prevention of terrorism rules,ALL suppliers have to adhere to this, soon media companies who suspect you of copryright infringement can demand to see packet data,if new rules are brought in

Yeah heard about that.

Do you know anything about the effectiveness of software like PeerBlock or are encrypted newsgroups the way forward?
Report Fait le jojo • January 5, 2010 6:11 PM GMT
I keep reading about newsgroups but dont understand! currently using PG2
Report ROCKIN HORSE • January 5, 2010 6:12 PM GMT
I just dont trust stuff like peerblock even cloaked proxys, they always have your number!! always remember that.
Report everythings gone green • January 5, 2010 6:12 PM GMT
Peerblock seems much better than PG2, that kept crashing on me and updates failed all the time.
Report Fait le jojo • January 5, 2010 6:14 PM GMT
you have to update from iblocklist, works fine now.
Am interested in this newsgroup stuff thou, if anyone is willing to tell
