You only get one chance before they suss you out.

talk to the HR manager, she will know the drill, and give you a platform to address your concerns. Can be a slippery slope but I wish you the best of luck

i worked for same employer for 8 years and recently experienced some anti- discriminatory behaviour

I'm pretty sure ACAS won't be interested if you've experienced anti-discriminatory behaviour. :)
Report Dr Crippen • January 4, 2010 5:58 PM GMT
If you contact ACAS they will advise you, but they arent lawyers and they can and do give poor advice.
If you go straight to an industrial tribunal, ACAS sometimes step in and try to sort it out between you and your employer before the case is heard.
Report TEN2FOLLOWER • January 4, 2010 5:59 PM GMT
I'd recommend asking people like ACAS (I think they can advise if you have a good case) and a TU rep, rather than people on here.
Report bix • January 4, 2010 5:59 PM GMT
Apart from the fact that I hope you weren't employed in a secretarial position what exactly is anti-discrimination.
Is this the opposite of discrimination? If so what are you complaining about?

Can you expand on the nature of the 'discrimination' ?

Give us some more details on the discrimination you suffered and someone may be able to offer advice. Unfortunetly you'l get some on here just assuming your claiming falsely unless you give the grounds for your compliant.

Many years ago I got myself signed off for depression. I was swinging it because I hated the job. They sacked me after a month. I thought I'd done well.
Report bix • January 4, 2010 6:18 PM GMT
Toughen up, get back to work and be glad you've got a job. The world isn't fair and never will be.
Compo culture isn't the answer.
Report CJ • January 4, 2010 6:18 PM GMT
I've been covering for work colleagues who are depressed, stressed, dropping yet another kid, constantly ill or just plain work shy for about 10 years now so you're not going to get any sympathy from me either.

If you can't hack it, stop crying about it and bloody leave. It's not as if you've been defusing IED's in Afghanistan ffs.

Look into raising a grievance.
Depending on your company's procedure you can take it all the way to the top if your not satisfied with the answer.
You are entitled to have a rep with you.
I find Acas are good.
When we had a prob at work an Acas man came in
and told us to raise the issue at the staff council meeting. If no joy there raise a grievance.

I hope your job was as a tea boy, as your command of English is appalling. You have been swinging the lead for months now. Get a fecking grip! I hope that ACAS chase you for being a loser/moaner/chancer and that you find alternative employment more suited to you.
Report Dobbo • January 4, 2010 8:01 PM GMT

"anti-discriminatory behaviour" "Im hoping the (sic.) settle before any form of arbitration" What a horrible character you truly are! If you think you will take on and beat a major oil company and make accusations against the HR manager among others, you are backing a 999/1 shot! If you really had ACAS on your side why are you having to beg for advice on here? Oh, and the word discrimination is not spelt "discrimanation" you muppet!
Report Marwood • January 5, 2010 11:52 AM GMT
I posted something similar yesterday on a thread about someone sacked, but if you are to do anythng you need to be very mindful of time-limits. With a discrimination claim to the Employmnet Tribunal it must be lodged within 3 months of the act of discrimination, or within 3 months of the last act if there has been a series of acts. ET does have power to extend time-limits but this is discretionary.

If things happened in September you need to act now quite urgently, as you may be at risk of being out-of-time - get some advice from CAB/local Law Centre/local employment solicitors, and I'd advise you to raise a formal grievance in any event (if you have yet to do so).
