i worked for same employer for 8 years and recently experienced some anti- discriminatory behaviour and some of it came from the HR manager, I have been signed off with depression since september and dont think i can go back to the harrassment i experienced. the company i work for is a major oil company in the city and now Ive wrote to them to tell them im enlisting the assistance of ACAS to lodge a complaint, Im hoping the settle before any form of arbitration, has anyone any experience or advice on this subject. thanks in advance?

talk to the HR manager, she will know the drill, and give you a platform to address your concerns. Can be a slippery slope but I wish you the best of luck

I'm pretty sure ACAS won't be interested if you've experienced anti-discriminatory behaviour. :)

If you contact ACAS they will advise you, but they arent lawyers and they can and do give poor advice.
If you go straight to an industrial tribunal, ACAS sometimes step in and try to sort it out between you and your employer before the case is heard.

I'd recommend asking people like ACAS (I think they can advise if you have a good case) and a TU rep, rather than people on here.

Apart from the fact that I hope you weren't employed in a secretarial position what exactly is anti-discrimination.
Is this the opposite of discrimination? If so what are you complaining about?

:0 Then why bother asking?

Can you expand on the nature of the 'discrimination' ?

Give us some more details on the discrimination you suffered and someone may be able to offer advice. Unfortunetly you'l get some on here just assuming your claiming falsely unless you give the grounds for your compliant.

Many years ago I got myself signed off for depression. I was swinging it because I hated the job. They sacked me after a month. I thought I'd done well.

Toughen up, get back to work and be glad you've got a job. The world isn't fair and never will be.
Compo culture isn't the answer.

I've been covering for work colleagues who are depressed, stressed, dropping yet another kid, constantly ill or just plain work shy for about 10 years now so you're not going to get any sympathy from me either.

If you can't hack it, stop crying about it and bloody leave. It's not as if you've been defusing IED's in Afghanistan ffs.

This sounds like a job in the public sector. Which other employer would stand for 5 months on the sick with depression?
