What about the budget deficits they were running at the top of the boom? Were they down to the global financial crisis as well?

As The Telegraph often says New labour has a very large 'client state' which it hopes will stay with them in the next election, they may well be right. Most people tend to look after number 1

It can't be right to have a society where the less you do the more you get rewarded.the country can no longer afford that, can some of you fools not see that. i run a small bussiness that has suffered badly during 2009.I simply cannot persauade my employees to do any overtime. I always get the stock answer i can't earn anymore or it will affect my tax credits.
I know employers that deliberatly pays as low as they possibly can and then assist their employees in claiming all the tax credits they can.Once there was a time when the lads that work for me ,their wives went out to work full/part time. now they sit at home on their backsides because they are better off with tax credits rather than working.
This is simply not right and can no longer continue.

I must say, i'm intrigued by this scheme to encourage the sacking of English workers in favour of Eastern European labour. Which agency is offering you this scheme/advice, PD and what is the scheme called?

I have a passing interest in farming in North Yorkshire and haven't come across this lucrative idea yet.

Population increasing in the UK because of one reason or another, surely the Laws of mathematics tells You there can never be enough jobs to go around.
Electronic packing robots at my last place of work Replaced Manpower,
Look at all the Electronic Exit gates at railway stations replacing Manpower,
Very soon Electronic Entry gates at Security in Airports Will replace Manpower.

Orioles, remember the great Tony Bliar telling us all when the EU was opened up that there would be winners and losers? He was more than a little circumspect as to who would be the losers. Now we are finding the answer. The average British working class person.

As for the redundancy scheme (not 'sacking') my neighbour, who is an arable farmer, took advantage of the scheme and put me in contact with them. At the time he employed 14 british workers now he employs 2 british 16 EU workers. He tells me he needs the Brits to oversee the quality of work of the others which, so his british workers tell me, is cr@p. The agency involved was the EU employment agency via the Job Centre. Of course we are always told that the british workers are as free to move and seek employment from other EU countries , somehow I doubt that there have been many takers.

Labour people still think that Brown will protect the poor if he gets reelected. It hasnt registered that the money is running out and whoever is in will have to make huge cuts. That cannot be disputed.
The same goes for Interest rates. Browns debt burden is going to lead to higher rates than we have had for a long time yet already there are posters on here ready to blame Cameron when it happens.
Its pathetic really.

Harry, its a sad reflection of what Britain has become and i am sorry to say that most people can't see beyound their benefit cheque. their heads are seriously buried in the sand and don't want to know or care about how close this country is to bankruptcy.People have become so selfish they can only think of themselves.
Labour destroyed this country in the 70's and it took a long time to bring it back to strengh only to be destroyed again by Labour failing policy.
sometimes i actually want Labour to win the general election so that they do actually banrupt the country and then maybe people will wake up to what has happened.Having said that if they do win i will leave the country,i have had enough!

You'll need to explain to your employees that their tax credits wouldn't get affected unless they somehow earn at least an extra £20,000 within the year

I feel we are heading off topic here a bit but problem with tax credits is that any increace in wages has to be reported and if it isn't benefit gets clawed back in the following tax year and causes them all sorts of financial problems.Personally i don't live like that but you have to be realistic to the fact that millions (yes millions) do!
