I'm sure you could pick another quote from that book that would contradict that statement.

Oh MAAAN - I knew I'd go and spoil it by posting somethin' stoopid...this is what happens when you listen to "Dark Side of the Moon" non-stop on earphones over the Winterval holiday period.
What's yer favourite line from the album? Anybody...? |

How about 'Climate Change' - now there's something to get stuck in to.

How about a religion based on post-Syd Pink Floyd?
Everybody gets to be rich while criticizing money. |

C&P something I rarely do in these threads although Vel seems to need others to make up his mind.
http://uncyclopedia.wikia.com/wiki/HowTo:Start_a_Religion Please ignore the word God and replace it with the bold writing. A religion is worthless if you don't have people to worship it. * People should trust God you completely. * People should hand control of their lives over to God you. * People should think you're wonderful and lordly. * People should cringe in abject remorse when you tell them theyve broken God's law. your rules. * People should overlook the things you do wrong because you're God or at least a special representative of God. |

if we expect capitalism to be about for a while, being pally with the money should be essential for any new religion.

Ovalman - where do YOU get YOUR information? Like, from birth, it was just THERE, was it, in your tremendous, Farley's rusk-fed head...?
No need for telly, radio, books, t'Internet, newspapers...no need to LEARN about language and reading and writing? Ovalman's sources : "Man in pub told me this." Next question : "Who told man in pub?" Like the "flat earth" idea (used as a pejorative term) - if your sources are checkable, they're usually spurious. |
|
By:
Eratosthenes knew a thing or two about the flat earth
|

By:
And Bede knew a thing or two about this spherical earth.

Vel from I was born until I was 16 I only ever knew about 1 religion. School didn't teach me about alternatives yet R.E. was compulsory. I then began to find out on my own means about other religion's and science.
I've read LOADS of different sources and the more I read into religion the more I know it is wrong. Everything can be explained by scientific means, it doesn't need a creator to run the universe, besides, who created the creator. If I read something and don't understand it, I question it, I look for further answers. I don't take something at face value because I read it somewhere. I remember arguing wit a Christian when I was about 21. It was an argument about the size of the Universe. I couldn't tell him why we knew the Andromeda Galaxy was 2.2 million light years away (and 2.2 million years old at least). I found out the answer but I didn't take the scientists word at face value until I understood how they worked it out. You on the other hand take everything at face value without question. Religion has brainwashed you, you need to ask questions. The World spent 1500 years in the dark ages because of people like you. |

explain quantum mechanics please :)

By:
Oh and I can explain how the Andromeda Galaxy is at least 2.2 million years old, your answer will be "because God made it."

"The World spent 1500 years in the dark ages because of people like you."
That passage reveals a fierce, lazy bigotry. ------------------------ Could you be more specific? Are you talking about monks and priests and the like? Don't you understand that Christian monks helped PRESERVE knowledge by founding schools and copying books in beautiful script? Also, they believed in a rational, logical universe made by a rational Creator? So they began to examine the world rationally... I could mention many, many monks and clergymen who were scientists or educators...but here is just one name : GREGOR MENDEL. Just saying the word "science" in the way you do (totemically) is almost a form of magic. Don't you understand that many scientific views find parallels in religion? That's why Oppenheimer quoted from the Bhagavad-Gita when the first atomic bomb was tested. Anyone who knows about quantum physics can speak about how the scientist-viewer can actually effect an experiment by merely observing it - in other words, we could say - yes, "we" - that reality is subjective and objective at the same time. |
|
By:
Religion suppressed knowledge as it was a method of control over the masses. Anyone with differing views were persecuted, even killed. Science and religion do not mix very well.
|
|
By:
It would help greatly if the Bishops, Popes, Imams and all the other religious zealots would just tell their 'flock'(a very apt description!) that the whole rigmarole is a huge con-trick and that they themselves only do it for the control it gives them over dumb animals.

Do you think the garden of eden is in Missouri Vel?

D'you mean like Pink Floyd's ANIMALS, Nayman?
|

Many of the ancient scientists were religious because they didn't have the knowledge. You say there are many leading scientists who are religionists but how many are household names?

Do you think the garden of eden is in Missouri Vel? -------------- No! And neither did I ever think the Earth was flat! Yours from Northmost-North Korea, Kim Il Washington Irving. |

"Household names" - FFS!
Do you work for an ad-agency? |
|
By:
You quote scientists I've never heard, they must be well respected in their fields.
|
|
By:
Ovalman - since you seem to hold these scientists in such high esteem, have you considered the notion that you're really just turning them into "high priests"?
Were scientists responsible for the Thalidomide disaster? Were scientists responsible for the atomic bomb? |
|
By:
Ovalman - are you saying you've never heard of Gregor Mendel?
Do you live in a cave? And furthermore, does that qualify as a "household"? |
|
By:
How come people werestill told the Earth was flat until some brave geezer sailed off the edge? Didn't those Egyptians prove this 1,000 years earlier?
They may have 'preserved' knowledge, but they sure didn't pass it on! |

Naydam - read the earlier postings about WASHINGTON IRVING.

Is he the best you can come up with?
Johannas Kepler was also a monk but they were both in a time when religion was acceptable. No doubt Darwin formed many of his idea's thanks to Mendel. |

Heres a good one for gambling site, Presbyterian minister Thomas Bayes.
Going to try and do some household one, Max Plank - Lutheran |

Niels Bohr :
"Bohr was born in Copenhagen, Denmark, in 1885. His father, Christian Bohr, a devout Lutheran, was professor of physiology at the University of Copenhagen (it is his name which is given to the Bohr shift or Bohr effect)." Bohr was influenced by Soren Kierkegaard (theologian) - for example, the idea in quantum theory that a particle can simultaneously exist as a wave and solid particle is almost mirroring the biblical idea that God exists as three beings who are ONE. Bohr is said to have thought of the idea after hearing a church sermon. In other words, quantum scientists are very fond of using metaphors and idealistic-models to get their view across. |
