Do you not believe in Jesus, Capt__F?

Anyone who doesn't believe in The Giant Chicken is a fowl, in my opinion.

All I'll say, is open your mind and heart when you go to sleep tonight.

Same applies to you, Foinavon ... & anyone else who questions.

mark me down as a fool trilby

Thanks Trilby, I've been listening out for him longer than most and not a dicky bird.

It's been 2000 years since he said "I'll be back" and people are still waiting. Amazing really.

I definitely believe in a Jesus Christ, I also believe in the Giant Chicken. I just feel the Big Bang is a better answer but what was before the Big Bang? No easy answers but JC is the least likely of the 3.

JC lives, I have risen, and yay, let it be known that that pie and mash has removed the last traces of my holy hangover, and I forgive your hurtful words.

Unfortunately, Dad is a stickler for rules, so I'm afraid it's probably an eternity with a red hot poker up you ars* for the lot of you. Repent, and if you've got piles, get them fixed before you pop it.

Was gonna hit the sack but you FOOLS postponed that.

You'll deny the existence of satan too?

Who do you think creates all the worldly troubles?

The confusion of minds?

....you don't need Jesus or any religion to open your heart and mind.......

...nope.

Have you ever asked Him, egner?

...humans create all worldly troubles...at least a minority of them.......

How would I do that trilby.....

OK.  What's your take on satan?

I do wonder a little if there are "dark forces" making people do evil things.
When you look at the medieval or nazi or communist genocides, or IS etc, it's easy to think maybe there is something really evil in there causing it. It's hard to understand how a fellow human can act like these sc*m.

.....just as you don't need Jesus or religion to show the good parts of yourself.....

...you don't need religious labels such as satan to excuse or explain away the bad parts.

118 egner

That's the thing about "religion".  Some mugs take it in without questioning.  Hence satan's PISH.

There is a God - and He can be found within one's True Self.

What's that picture titled:

"Women know your plaice"?

I definitely believe in a Jesus Christ

BOOM "Christ" is not a name, it is a title. It means God's chosen Messiah. To believe in Jesus as the Christ means you accept who he was and what he was here for. I'm claiming that as a win!

Really though, it's quite funny to read through some of this. Since 2009 when this began I did a serious amount of research, not only on atheist websites but also by talking to Christians including a guy who'd actually been around Greece tracing where Paul went and varyifying to historical aspect of his recordings. Look I could play Sunset Christo and c+p numerous posts and deconstruct them but none of it's relevent to you. All that's relevent to you as non-christians id Jesus, those 4 books at the start of the new testament, Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. The entire rest of the bible is intended for those who show faith in the teachings of those 4 books. Why on earth would you think the rest of would make sense to you if you don't understand Jesus?
Luke was one of the most intelligent men alive at the time. He was one of a handful who could actually read and write and having finished his education as a doctor, he then proceeded to spend the rest of his life touring Judea speaking to people who had actually seen Jesus. This is recorded independently by Tacitus who not only records part of his movements but also what he was doing. His source material, ie the notes he made as he spoke to people are still kept in the Jeruslaem museum. So this hugely intelligent man who spoke to over 20,000 eye witnesses then spent the last years of his life compiling his records. Yes, by this stage it was 60-70AD and JC was ong gone but does that really make the eye witness statments any less accurate? Does anyone (anyone sensible) doubt the finding of the independent Hillsborough report which was compiled in exactly the same way? All of this is very nice in itself but when you then go and compare Luke's account to the others, particularly that of Mark who knew precisely nothing of Luke's work, the amount of similarities makes it ough to believe there's nothing in it. I think you can see that at the start of this thread whilst I was a sympathist, I was far from a believer. This research left me with 3 viable scenarios. Either 1) Jesus was a trickster, some kind of ancient Dynamo who pulled off illusions. Whilst some of this is belivable (we've all seen Dynamo walk on water), raising Jairus's daughter from the dead without even being there is a step too far for me. Not to mention raising himself after 3 days in the grave. It's just not possible but the weight of evidence compels a true scholar to believe at least that it appeared to happen. 2) Jesus was a liar. Well, since he never tried to gain anything from his work and ended up being crucified, I struggle to believe this either, in fact option 3) that it's all true and he really was the "son" of the creator God who made this world, is by far and away the most believable option. Sorry this doesn;t quite fit your agendas

Seems to me that he's fishing, caught a whopper

I'd call Maureen instead, loving this thread :D

the ghospels were written at least a generation after jesus death maybe even 2 so they can hardly be called accurate.......

that's not true, I don't know where you got that information from but Luke compiled his gospel in around 60-70 AD which is less than 30 years after his death and as described, the information was gathered even earlier than that. Mark worked with St Peter who was Jesus right hand man so that's not a generation apart either. whilst what you say would suit your view nicely, there's a huge weight of evidence that says you're wrong. Bury your head in the sand if you so wish!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zo49UhEV5rI

30 years is a generation you twonk

fkg.......do you believe in evolution??

not in my book. anyway, arguing about how long a generation is a a pointless distraction. 30 years is not long enough to discredit the account. And that's ignoring that the eye witness accounts were taken earlier and also to ignore the consistency with Mark's account which was compiled from the sermons of St Peter who was actually there.

why no women in JC's cabinet ?

25 years is considered a generation......back then people didnt live as long.......30 years after his death there would be very few people who would have met him

Yes absolutely I believe in evolution, quite apart from the overwhelming physical evidence, the bible says God has crafted and moulded us into what we are today. I think that describes evolution very quaintly.

what eyewitness accounts

so everything in the bible is garbage then??

Bq open sundays

well you could argue that if there was massive disparity between them but there isn't. In fact i'd invite you or anyone else to present 1 inconsistency betweeen the gospels. And before you start telling me they were doctored to remove inconsistencies, remeber they didn;t know about each other's work and the source material still exists.......

why no women in JC's cabinet ?

no but they did get many privilidges such as being the first to see the resurrected Jesus.

So this hugely intelligent man who spoke to over 20,000 eye witnesses then spent the last years of his life compiling his records

You sure about that fkqmz?
I've met nowhere near that many people and there were a lot less people around back then. Let's assume there were 20,000 witnesses for arguments sake, then to interview one a day every day would take over 50 years. Assuming he rested on the Sabbath and other holy days it would take over 60 years. How many people do you think he could round up and question each and every day? Seems an impossibility to me even if he did live to a ripe old age.

.....if you think God has crafted and moulded us.........and we...as a species are now on the brink of moulding life....through genetic manipulation......then perhaps things have come full circle....almost........

...all we need to complete the circle is the ability for interstellar travel......where perhaps we will happen upon a primitive civilisation and start the stories all over again!!!!!!!

I can't remember last week as a true event never mind 30 years ago.

They must be true and the word of god as you say fkqmz

constantine put the bible together in 300ad so the fact the 4 are roughly the same story as they were put together not by the authors..you know he had  other prospective "messiahs" all telling the same story....jesus was not unique.........you do know the universe is 13.7 billion years old and the earth over 4 billon.........pray tell where does the talking snake fit in??

Any of you watched that link I posted yet? It makes sense to me...

Posting a random link on a random forum will never get views unless you put what it's about and an indication of its length. No point watching a 4h documentary btw.

I will watch it but just to let you know in future, post descriptions to your links.

how can evolution and a god both be true.....what did  he do for 13 billion years......have a long dump......come on ffs

It's a 7 minute video of Professor John lennox giving an explanation for Christianity.

A very good explanation I might add. Lennox*

Just watched it aasbff. if it makes you happy, all well and good. it just sounds like wishful thinking wrapped up in mysticism to me. I could be less polite but won't be in deference to your feelings.

How many people do you think he could round up and question each and every day?
Many!! Very Many!! Jesus lived his entire life in a relatively small area and Luke's travels would not have included thousands of locations. Word of what he was doing spread. The eye witnesses were expecting him. They had seen and because of what they had seen they were so passionate about it that they were flocking to speak to Luke, the man who could write! When he arrived in any given town or city, (how many people do you suppose lived in Jerusalem at the time btw?), they went to him - in crowds. Its not an unbelievable amount at all for something which was the man's life work. He didn't die til he was very old!

theres no eye witnesses in the ghospels.......they would all be dead

religons are man made.....the fact theres over 6000 gods tell you that........people who believe in god have a mental illness

Doesn't everyone want justice and to have meaning in their life? Why do you think people like joining up to stuff; gangs, teams, communities etc. Humans feel the need to belong.

Atheism gives you nothing and removes all hope. And if you've watched Shawshank Redemption or been on the bones of your arse at some point in your life, hope is a beautiful thing.

but dont you want the truth??

I want the truth but with a happy ending. Atheism doesn't give you a happy ending.

the evidence for god is almost zero.....enjoy this one life you have

Atheism gives something......and that is accountability for ones thoughts and actions......

.....no religion to blame ones actions on....and no unproven deity to absolve ones actions.

Hope can come through hard work...education.....kindness and compassion towards others and the environment....

...you do not need any God or messiah to decide to take this course of action.

the evidence for god is almost zero.....enjoy this one life you have

I think there is plenty of evidence but people become blinded through all the evil that roams the world.

Best post I've read on this thread and one of the best posts I've ever read Egner.

Just to let you know I'll use some of that.

Superb.

plenty of evidence ..where??

yep yup moet through a straw...yeeeeesss renge!

dont mention jesus........only 60% of respected historians even believe he existed.......a fairy tale written 2000 years ago is not proof

I am racing round the decking!!!!  wooohooooo!!!!

sofia seems to be brimming with the holy spirit!

constantine put the bible together in 300ad so the fact the 4 are roughly the same story as they were put together not by the authors..you know he had  other prospective "messiahs" all telling the same story....jesus was not unique.........you do know the universe is 13.7 billion years old and the earth over 4 billon.........pray tell where does the talking snake fit in??

Constantine compiled the books of the bible into order yes that is true but he didn't write the script of the books. The earliest transcripsts of the gospels long pre-date Constantine and they're still they've not changed.
Jesus was unique because of the resurrection, you might not believe it happened but the people who were around at the time, who saw him alive, then saw him die, then saw him alive again, they certainly did believe it, or at least that's what the man who can write has reported. none of the other messiah's convinced the people like this, there's no comparible claim.

finally, i appreciate the need for you to understand how the 13b year history of the universe and the creation story fit together. in truth, no christian truely understands this but the reason we believe in spite of this is because as "chistians" our belief is inthe life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, not in the validity of an ancient story of how the universe came to be.
However I know that's not really a satisfactory answer for you so I'll put 2 things to you. Firstly, how can the "days" in the creation story be the same as what we refer to as days now, ie 24x60x60 seconds where a second is the time taken for light to travel however many meters it is..... the sun wasn't made until "day" 4, how can they possibly be the same thing? Secondly, Genesis 1:2 says the Earth was formless and empty, the formless part, together with the fact that in this story, things are happening to the Earth before the Sun exists, suggests to me that to God, the Earth is something other than a lump of iron and nickel that's flying around a star on the outskirts of the milky way! Yes it is that but to him, it's also something else. What? I don't know. This is where my interest ends, ultimately I'm a Christian not a philosopher

Cardiff you are funny, there's more written evidence of Jesus' existence than there is of Julius Caeser's. Listen to what your senior atheists are saying!

if evolution is true a god is a billion to one.......the only chance of there being a god if you could prove the earth is only 10000 years old.......and we know thats not going to happen...........and  i never said constantine wrote the books.....he decided which one to go with... he choose jesus

How many people did he resurrect to? ie. How many seen him?

How many of gods visionarys have seen god through a dream or vision?

Just curious because Islam have formed a religion on it?

Population of 1st century Jerusalem from a wikipedia entry.
The population of Jerusalem in the time of Josephus has been estimated to be around 80,000.[4] The total population of Pharisees, the forerunners of modern Rabbinic Judaism, was around 6,000 ("exakischilioi"), according to Josephus.[5]
During the First Jewish–Roman War(66–73 CE), the population of Jerusalem was estimated at 600,000 persons by Roman historian Tacitus, while Josephus, estimated that there were as many as 1,100,000, who were killed in the war.[6] Josephus also wrote that 97,000 were sold as slaves. After the Roman victory over the Jews, as many as 115,880 dead bodies were carried out through one gate between the months of Nisan and Tammuz.[7]
Arguing that the numbers given in historical sources were usually grossly exaggerated, Hillel Geva estimated from the archaeological evidence that the actual population of Jerusalem before its 70 CE destruction was at most 20,000.[8]

I think I would put more trust in the archaeological evidence than the heresay of the early writers. Given that Jesus was crucified by the Romans at the behest of the Pharisees, it's doubtful that the population of an entire city would be flocking to talk about him thus drawing attention to themselves. If you want to believe that then fair enough.

plenty of evidence ..where??

A random big bang somehow managed to make this complex, mysterious, beautiful planet teeming with life without any design?

If you look within your day to day life, you will see all sort of items and things within it. Mobile phones, televisions, houses, computers, tables, chairs etc. They ALL had a creator. They didn't simply appear.

For e.g. If I threw a load of random pieces of wood in the air and a few nuts and bolts to go with it, would it form a table?

There are plenty of testaments of people saying they've seen Jesus, Mohammed and Buddha through near death experiences and have stated that they had left their body. Do you think that all these people are lying?

You will obviously just say they are hallucinating but why on Earth would they see Jesus and other prophets when they were atheists beforehand?

egner, I hope that I;ve shown here that belief in God is not based on a need for anything, neither assb is it out a desire for hope beyond death or anything like that. It's because we believe an old story about a man from the middle east 2k years ago who claimed he was one with the creator of this Earth, because and only because the historical evidence leaves us in no doubt. Seek and ye shall find!

fkg......and your nuts....NAP

aas.....who made god??........as you said.......everyone must have a creator

Yep, just because your slightly advanced monkey brain can not comprehend it, well that shouldn`t surprise you really. We are limited in comprehension.

You say beautiful planet but carnivores don`t seem to care about the beauty of others.

Looks like were living in a pointless existence then, were all fcuked. May as well just act a **** and be done with it.

My gut feeing is that all religions and Gods were invented but if they give good moral values for people that's still a good thing.

Little bit tipsy tonight so apologies if this might sound morbid but if anything happened to my son and wife I would have find out of there was a heaven/afterlife and hope to join them them there.

Exactly paddletoe. Everyone wants it, it's just that peoples EGO gets in the way.

People also conceive God to be a big bearded person in the sky. When actually he's within everybody. (That's how I see it anyway)

More importantly, what you drinking?

just because you want an afterlife doesnt make it true.........

Looks like were living in a pointless existence then, were all fcuked. May as well just act a **** and be done with it.

Rather a selfish point of view.

Passing on wisdom and love to our children for example is not pointless.
It`s the memories you leave behind which live on.

just because you want an afterlife doesn't make it true.........

Fair point but at least it's positive thinking. Negative thinking doesn't get you anywhere, it makes your penis shrivel to the size of an acorn and only makes you feel bad. No point being like that all your life is there?

I don't think you should pass on too much wisdom, you have to live and learn yourself. It's a bit like finding God for me, I can't help you find it nor can anyone else, YOU have to find it yourself.

Your body is a mere shell of who you really are imo.

[i]Your body is a mere shell of who you really are imo.

Your parents created you aasbff, before that....?
It`s the same life cycle throughout the animal Kingdom.
Is a horses body a mere shell to what it really is also?

Haha I dunno mate, I'm merely giving you something to talk about. I'm always rooting for the underdog and nowadays, God is the underdog!

Do you reckon horses stand in a field and think about whether there's a God or not? I don't think it's in their life cycle.

Perhaps humans are more curious about mystery = magic = magician = God.

But as we know magic is just science unexplained.

But as we know magic is just science unexplained

..great stuff.

at least most christians dont really have to devote much time to their religon.........suspect the majority go to church once a week ...thats no real hardship.........but the moslims pray 5 times a DAY 7 days a week..........what a load of stupid ****s......

...let's leave the last word to the wonderful George Carlin....
