Booked a romantic cottage for me and the Mrs in February to celebrate our anniversary as I do every year.
This year I went for a place called Strone near Dunoon just north west of Glasgow on the basis that if the weather was cak it's a short hop from Glasgow where there's plenty of gallerys, restaurants, shopping etc.
When I've checked the rac route the 'short hop' is over a ferry from Dunoon to Gourock, which turns out to ne £38 return for us and the car! It's either fork out for the ferry, take a 100 mile detour or stay on the western side for a week by Inverary etc.
Anyone out there from this neck of the woods who can reccomend things to see and do around this area? (I would put serious answers only but it's school holidays and the juveniles have evidently been let loose on their keyboards so won't bother)! Thanks in advance
To be honest, it's a beautiful area, but much more so in the summer. Have a look at the site and see if there is anything that interests you. If you go to Glasgow, visit the Burrell Collection - it's great if you like galleries.

Cheers Johnn - does indeed look beautiful but couldn't help but notice all the photos were taken in the summer! The other thing with going away at this time of year is places like the castle/ botanical gardens etc. are likely to be closed til Easter.
On the plus side however, if the weather's ok there's no crowds and there's something evocative about certain places out of season.

Beautiful countryside, bit icy at the moment. Like I say, Glasgow probably worth a visit, even at £38 for the ferry. Museum at Kelvin Hall also well worth a visit, in the west end.
