What about innocent people that are wrongly sentenced to death?

Do we just send their families an apology letter after they have been wrongly killed?

Kevin ffs, have you never seen an innocent person jailed, and then years later evidence found to prove their innocence, and they are let out of jail

if you're dead, you cant get justice

FFS.

PEOPLE HAVE BEEN SETENCED TO DEATH AND THEN YEARS LATER ( AFTER THEY HAVE BEEN EXECUTED ) EVIDENCE SHOWS THEY WERE INNOCENT.

GET WITH IT FFS.

AND THE COMMENT ON THE TROOPS DYING IS EMBARASSING AND HAS NO PLACE IN THIS THREAD.

A lot of people argue against the death penalty because it does does not deter murder. If we dismissing capital punishment on that basis why not eliminate prisons as well because they do not seem to be very effective in the deterrence of crime?

The death penalty does not deter murder. I'd agree with that.
But it does eliminate a repeat offence. Gets rid of the rubbish.

Have you ever thought about how many criminals escape punishment because of the do gooders like canaryboy, and yet the victims never have a chance to do that?

Between 1950 and 1957, the number of murders in Britain never rose above 180. The annual average in recent years is over 900.

Good try mightymoyes but not quite on the mark. The ultimate hypocrisy would be listening to the likes of you do gooders after one of your nearest and dearest takes an early bath at the hands of some low life.

By:
Mighty Whites 2008

i wouldnt have the death penalty as automatic penalty however in certain cases it should be applied. Punishments in general need to be tougher the sentences are too lenient for a whole raft of offences
