Scotlands first official long distance route links Milngavie to Fort William a distance of 152km (95 miles) - from the northern outskirts of Glasgow, to the foot of Ben Nevis at Fort William.
The Route passes through Mugdock Country Park, follows the shores of Loch Lomond, passing Ben Lomond, through Glen Falloch and Strathfillan, crossing Rannoch Moor, past Buachaille Etive Mor to the head of Glencoe, climbing the Devils Staircase, descending to sea level to cross the River Leven at the head of Loch Leven before entering Lairigmor and Glen Nevis.
I avoided the Loch Lomond bit and got off the overnight train from London at Tyndrum and then to Fort William in 2 days with an overnight at Kingshouse....execllent walk and the you can do the Ben Nevis summit when you have finished

Kingshouse is in the middle of nowhere at entrance of Glencoe and is the most important to book in advance I would say...other than that should be plenty of hotels or b and bs to choose from en route

ironically, there are a lot of long flat bits on it, it is also not that physically challenging exc. Ben Lomond. The wilderness is just great, especially uup around Bridge of Orchy and Ranoch Moor

There's an annual race, with the winner usually taking between 18-19 hours to complete the 95 miles. Here's the result from a few years ago.http://british-ultrarunner.co.uk/West%20Highland%20Way%202005.html
I did it in September and local in Kinlochleven said it was always a good month...my official guide recommends May and June and to avoid July and September...well worth getting and can be got through Amazon (the one by Aitken and Smith)

Great adventure doing this route, beautiful scenery, esp around Glencoe.
The Kinghouse hotel used to let people camp in the back garden if it was full but not sure it still does (good few years since i did the WHW. Best to check if planning a stop there.

Fwiw during the race they weigh the runners at check points and are not looking for weight loss but weight gain as this is an indicator that your liver and kidneys are not working correctly
