My God, where did you get it, sir?

You're the chosen one.
Report Crispforce • December 24, 2009 2:09 PM GMT
Ive never seen one like it before
Report Pokermonster • December 24, 2009 2:10 PM GMT
It looks very well made I must say.
Report Pokermonster • December 24, 2009 2:11 PM GMT
Does it belong to you, or have you copied the image from the internet somewhere?
Report Crispforce • December 24, 2009 2:12 PM GMT
My missus has just recieved it as a christmas gift

Dont know what the hell it is though
Report Pokermonster • December 24, 2009 2:13 PM GMT
Can I have a look from another angle please?
Report Pokermonster • December 24, 2009 2:13 PM GMT
With a coin beside it to give an indication of size.
Report Veck • December 24, 2009 2:13 PM GMT
Jewelery of some kind. Interesting. What is it?
Report Crispforce • December 24, 2009 2:14 PM GMT
The 'arm' bit is jointed and has tiny magnets on it so it closes around the 'crystal' part
Report Ibrahima Sonko • December 24, 2009 2:14 PM GMT
shame so ugly feckers face is seen in the glass.
Report Pokermonster • December 24, 2009 2:14 PM GMT
Is your wife Scandinavian by any chance?
Report Crispforce • December 24, 2009 2:15 PM GMT
egyptian
Report Pokermonster • December 24, 2009 2:17 PM GMT
Ah, I see. I only ask because the Danes and Swedes open their Christmas presents on the 24th.
Report Dan Chipowski • December 24, 2009 2:17 PM GMT
I have seen something similar before but have no idea what it is.
Report Pokermonster • December 24, 2009 2:18 PM GMT
Can you swivel the crystal so the metal forms a chain with the glass outside?
Report Crispforce • December 24, 2009 2:19 PM GMT
Not really egyptian

She's from Derbyshire

Just thought it sounded more myterious

The gift is from someone in France
Report Crispforce • December 24, 2009 2:24 PM GMT
Just d/loading more pics

The crystal swivels but not so it can be on the outside of the jointed arm

Great Scott!

Its a Flux Capacitor.
Report billy hill • December 24, 2009 2:39 PM GMT
Is it some kind of jeweler's loupe (magnifying glass)?
Report Pokermonster • December 24, 2009 2:39 PM GMT
Thanks Crisp.

That is indeed a mystery.
Report Pokermonster • December 24, 2009 2:39 PM GMT
Can't be that Bill; the glass has an opaque back.
Report Crispforce • December 24, 2009 2:40 PM GMT
Cant see through it

It has a black rubbery backing
Report Pokermonster • December 24, 2009 2:41 PM GMT
Can you remove the glass and place a picture or a pressed flower behind it?

It might be a device that presents such objects in an amusing manner.
Report Prepared • December 24, 2009 2:43 PM GMT
that first picture seems to show some sort of animal trapped in it!
Report wur • December 24, 2009 2:45 PM GMT
It's a dilithium crystal.
Report billy hill • December 24, 2009 2:46 PM GMT
i think it is a Fly's eye type toy where you can see mutliple images through it. not sure why the back is black though?
Report casemoney • December 24, 2009 2:47 PM GMT
its a false eye holder u can see the eye inside
Report Crispforce • December 24, 2009 2:50 PM GMT
Backing and glass appear to be pretty secure and cant get them off.

New development though..the crystal bit slides out on its pivot around 10 mm

Report casemoney • December 24, 2009 2:51 PM GMT
Ive changed my mind ,its something from outer space I.M.O
Report billy hill • December 24, 2009 2:53 PM GMT
what happens if you shine a torch light into it? is it like a disco mirror ball?
Report casemoney • December 24, 2009 2:54 PM GMT
where did u get it ?
Report Andy Murray • December 24, 2009 2:54 PM GMT
does it spin when shut?
whats that bit in the middle of the biggest link thing?
Report casemoney • December 24, 2009 2:54 PM GMT
sorry seen above post
Report wur • December 24, 2009 2:55 PM GMT
Well, it might be capable of focussing the sun's rays to start a fire. Perhaps a faceted lens can do this better than a smooth one? Just a wild guess.
Report Crispforce • December 24, 2009 2:57 PM GMT
2 of the links have tiny magnets on them and they line up with 2 tiny magnets on the side of the crystal so it prevents it from spinning while closed up.

This will make for a good quiz over Christmas for visiting family
Report Magical Feast • December 24, 2009 2:57 PM GMT
Magnets.. crystal .. some new age type life cleansing thingy imo, channel ones inner light and all that.
Report Crispforce • December 24, 2009 3:00 PM GMT
Just shone a torch into it and it projected a secret map onto the ceiling.

Just kidding.... worked like a glitter ball and shone random lights everywhere
Report Crispforce • December 24, 2009 3:01 PM GMT
* mirror ball
Report wur • December 24, 2009 3:03 PM GMT
Cut & paste

Believers in crystal healing may carry crystals around with them, believing that they impart healing powers to them wherever they go, or that they have positive vibrations that attract positive events and interactions with others.

Report billy hill • December 24, 2009 3:04 PM GMT
does it spin when opened up (like the last picture)
Report Magical Feast • December 24, 2009 3:08 PM GMT
twist rather than spin..? its a posh rainbow maker.. final answer.
Report Crispforce • December 24, 2009 3:10 PM GMT
Yes, when opened up it will rotate on the small axle.

The picture with the 50p is opened up as wide as it will go..ie the jointed arm wont go straight

Report Crispforce • December 24, 2009 4:04 PM GMT
Nice one nova :)

I wouldnt have guessed that ....ever
Report billy hill • December 24, 2009 4:10 PM GMT
:D well that kept me occupied waiting til it's a decent time to go out.

I'd hoped it was like the crystal which goes on the top of the staff in Raiders of the Lost Ark which shows the location of the well of souls at sunrise on the Summer solstice.

EFFING handbag hanger. Indiana Jones would have been a tad disappointed if he'd got one of those instead of the crystal.
Report Crispforce • December 24, 2009 4:16 PM GMT
Yep...and all of a sudden my missus says 'oh yeah i've heard of them'

bit late now...grrrrrr !

she was getting ready to go out wearing it as a bracelet ;-)

Some quotes from the handbag hanger website

It's chic, it's stylish
and invaluable!

Where do you put your handbag when you're out?

On the floor? - not very chic
On the back of your chair? - easy for someone to slip off
In your lap? - not very stylish

Well?........... Where do you put it?

Up your **in hole.
Report Ivor • December 24, 2009 5:06 PM GMT
is it a by-product of the CERN experiments in Swaziland?
Report TheRankingMissP • December 24, 2009 5:08 PM GMT
