Drug related death of Brittany Murphy

Your source please?

All I've read is that they believe it be natural causes but the results of toxology tests won't be known for several weeks.

Now now MOMM, let's not allow facts to stand in the way of the need to be unpleasant about the recently deceased for no reason greater then spite and bitterness.

Why would anyone be spiteful or bitter about the death of this actress?
I didn't know her. Some have just commented that it's not something to get too upset about that's all.
It is unusual though that these apparently healthy young people should die in this manner, without having been involved in drug taking don't you think.

Nobody said that anyone had got too upset about it.
I just said that it's not something to get too upset about.
There is a difference.
I would have thought that was there was a chance of some getting upset about this death though,as according to you this was a tragic death.
If a man can't get upset over a tragic death then what can he get upset over?

Young people die all the time. It doesnt have to be drug related.

nope you had a go at 2 forumites and said they were only saying what they said because it was a celeb

You miss the point CB.
These people wouldn't post here about a genuine tragedy but are quite happy to post about a "celebrity" death.

We can end up playing a game of semantic tennis here.

You will agree,I'm sure, that over the last 10 or 15 years that the standing of "celebrities" has changed in the public eye,and the reaction to their deaths has also changed. It's just a way of the modern world and some people are more prone to falling for the celebity thing than others.
By:

When: 22 Dec 09 12:04
well i can't say i'm that aware of how celeb deaths were treated over 15 years ago as quite young

but i've seen the reactions to deaths like jfk, elvis and lennon, and can't say that portrayed anything massively different to what we see today

The 3 deaths you mentioned are instantly recognisable names. They were genuine big name deaths.
These days even little known actresses get coverage.
Around here in Rugby League country I swear the clubs must scour the papers looking for the deaths of anyone that has had any connection with the club over the last 50 years, just so they can have a minutes silence.
It is the modern way of showing how wonderful you are.

hardly little known imo

and i wouldn't use a sample of mainly middle aged lonely gamblers to conduct any survey

btw didn't someone like widnes or warrington have a load of deaths with close connection to the club recently

a bit like motherwell i suppose

hardly scouring for it imo

and you seem to think that showing respect is somehow done to show off

how bizarre

So you think that coming on a betting forum and saying how tragic it is that someone you don't know has died is showing respect?

How very bizarre.

not at all

i was responding to your comment about minutes silences at the rugby

thought it was fairly obvious...

i'd actually say it's called being objective

two minutes silence is the real mark of respect these days. or is it a minutes applause? i can never keep up.

You pay respect to people who've earned it or who you know much about ( characterwise etc. )
Paying respect to celebs because they are celebs and calling their deaths tragic, cheapens respect.
For all you know the 2 celebs mentioned on this thread could have been terrible people once you knew them.
To knee-jerk condolences and respect and call things tragic is a 'look at me' vibe, imo
Once you start saying a stranger's death is tragic where do you go from there? What about when a family member dies ,is that calleds a super-tragedy to clarify that we feel that that one is worse?
There is nothing wrong with apathy , otherwise you'll end up as a blubbing mess when the shopkeeper says there are no mars bars left.

Brodie understands it too.
There was a game earlier this year when RU players wore black armbands because the Grandmother of one of the physio's had died.
Where does it end?
By:

When: 22 Dec 09 12:51
being objective by calling a death tragic is not respect

it's pretty much impossible to respect a passing on an internet forum imo

i mean, it's an internet forum ffs

saying it's tragic is just meaningless then?
By:

When: 22 Dec 09 12:56
and who ranks deaths anyway?

do people honestly compare them?

why would you do that when they're totally unrelated events
By:
mitchell downie
When: 22 Dec 09 12:58
Was the tragic death of Brittany drugs related then?
By:
canaryboy
When: 22 Dec 09 12:58
no it's being objective

like if someone says the weather has been a bit severe lately

now if someone starts saying it has affected them deeply you should probably start worrying
By:
Easter 1916
When: 22 Dec 09 12:58
people do compare them though. like when wacko snuffed it all the media were saying it's the biggest outpouring of grief since that strumpet lady di bought hers. you even started a thread along similar lines i believe , yeller.

yeah that's comparing the public reaction not the actual death!

of course there will be a correlation between fame and reaction
By:
Brodie
When: 22 Dec 09 13:02
a bit severe? wtf does that mean?
By:
canaryboy
When: 22 Dec 09 13:03
your point was about ranking deaths in ways like super tragic

that has absolutely nothing to do with the size of public reaction

2 completely different things
