Local council parkie I work with is on £13 an hour, but gets called out to do early morning salting on streets by driving a mini tractor around hauling a salt spreader, and gets paid double time for it. When he's finished, he has a nap in the bothy to catch up on lost sleep. Only gets the regulation £13 an hour for that, though.

Just had fish and chip dinner, put my own salt on. Saved me a fortune.

Son in law works for his local council in a transport office. Can often be found working overtime by being asleep on his desk on Saturday mornings throughout the year. In winter he drives a gritting lorry during the night and gets paid a fortune to do it.

i live over the salt mines where all the rock salt comes from but i never see any of it either on the roads or the grit bins near me

This is why we need to relax border controls and privatise the contract provision fully. There must be hundreds of thousands of Poles and Bulgarians who'd do that for £7 an hour without overtime.

Good luck to them.

Good for them. I'd do the same if I could.

Scouse mentality that,isn't it SF?
Report STUDYFORM • December 22, 2009 8:55 AM GMT
I will never have that GH - no matter how tough things are.
Report Crisp77 • December 22, 2009 8:56 AM GMT
Good to know they have a skill set to fall back on when public services are slashed/privatised
Report Gene Hackman • December 22, 2009 8:58 AM GMT
You just have SF.That's exactly what a scouser would say,and you just said it.
Report STUDYFORM • December 22, 2009 9:05 AM GMT
Not at all GH. I can't stress it enough.

There's a lot of jealousy about on here, plenty of pontificating by those seeing 'inferior people' as potentially earning some money.

Too much indignance and too much unjustified superiority on here.

It's unpatriotic to accept public money for sleeping....unless it is some sort of grant for sleeping research of course.
