If block A is 'people who would buy the X factor single anyway'
and block B is 'people who will buy the RATM thing as a protest' and Block C is 'everybody else' then by virtue of the nature of Block B, very few Joe sales will have been lost from this block However many in Block C will get buy the X Factor thing when they would not usually ahve done so e.g. they might be fans but not usually purchase music they might have been annoyed/offended/bored by what they've seen of RATM and rebel against the rebels etc Thus Cowell's pockets will be stuffed far fuller. I'll bet he contrives to engineer similar hypes in future once he does his sums Meanwhile any decent music being released gets ignored due to blanket coverage of two puerile records. |

Cowell predicates this entire show to land the xmas number- he is not interested in the money, he has enough of that already. It is no coincidence the show finishes just before xmas- why not just after, why not the end of November- why, because that would get him number 1, but not necessarily xmas number 1. It is about ego, now that ego has to come to terms with a couple of students messing around on facebook scuppering that entire plan. As for advertising, in terms of publicity what has happened this week pales into significance when compared to 15 weeks of primetime tv in front of 20m viewers. In terms of other artists, it is known in the music industry that unless you're going for the xmas market it is a dead time of year, hardly a problem there. |
