Everyone had a Lou Macari, short player where the airfix glue had melted his alegs a little when attempting a mother tramping accident.

Got it one christmas, and was looking forward to it.

Greatest load of sh!t i've ever got for christmas. Tried to 'play' it once, then it went in the bin.

old sets unused or only ussed once fetch £300 now :0

Ranks along with monopoly as one of the few games where no one plays by the official rules. Flick to kick means flicking a la releasing a bogey using a thumb in my opinion, subbuteo rules counts these as illegal preferring a nancy flick with finger alone.
Report bigpoppapump • December 19, 2009 1:46 PM GMT
you needed your dad to pin your pitch on to a board
Report Max and Paddy • December 19, 2009 1:55 PM GMT
My grandad did that for me, bpp :)

I had stands, fans, floodlights, a scoreboard, perimeter fence, dugouts with managers and coaches, corner kick takers, throw-in takers, a TV gantry with cameramen and commentators...

Used to put the pitch up on a 6 foot snooker table.

My most obscure team was Fluminense and I also had Nantes.
Report Princesse D'Anjou • December 19, 2009 3:44 PM GMT
^^ Fluminense very specialist - not like Notts County, Newcastle, Juve eall as one LOL

Armenia Belefield (German's) were the closest I could get to my own team. I had the stand and floodlights.

my glued legs/torso XI were unbeatable. maybe the extra weight ?

amount of flick **ers you couldn't make up though :|

it's a flick ffs not a general full hand manipulation (that's extra)..

I was mint & played in the UK Championships one year - lost to that lad from Brimingham with the long finger nail. Never had a grandstand. Used to use Melchester Rovers (i.e. Liverpool which my Mam painted a thin yellow stripe on using a**tail stick & Humbrol enamel paint). Happy days :)

Two other games I remember fondly were the horse racing game Escalado, and a dice based statistical football game called Logacta Chart Soccer or something similar.
Report Alex69 • December 19, 2009 8:12 PM GMT
^ Jesus Christ, logacta. Labour of love, that! I also played a game called 'Bryplay' which was a card-based football game based on each side having an ability of 'A' (Real Madrid etc) through to 'D' (total no hopers).
Report JOCI Club • December 19, 2009 8:16 PM GMT
Logacta was excellent - used to play it for hours on end with a friend. Even had European competitions where I first got to hear of teams like Roda JCK / AZ Alkmaar etc.

I remember as a kid (and being a Blackpool fan) we couldn't find a Blackpool subbutteo team anywhere in the local shops, so we went into Blackpool itself to try and find one. Could we find a Blackpool team in Blackpool itself?!?! Could we buggery!
Report yorky • December 20, 2009 11:47 AM GMT
My mum and dad got me subbuteo target man by mistake the one where the box made up the pitch like a five a side stadium, ended up being so much better,my m8s pitches used to crease and scrumple up, plus with the pitch having sides on it never went out of play
Report Spirit Of My Weigh • December 20, 2009 11:51 AM GMT
My Dad made me a hard table with a cardboard surrounding to put the pitch on. It had 4 legs.

Spent many a teenage year playing Subbuteo Leagues with my best M8 and had 50 teams including Brazil and the green of Plymouth.

Sadly I did commentaries on a Phillips Tape Recorder with its 2 reels and I played for 7 hours every week on my own.

My Darling Dad eventually said "I wish I had never made that bl++dy table!" lol

just to prove my mam and dads complete lack of any knowledge of what kids want, one of my teams i got in the green extra team box was kershaw from the german bundesleage 2nd division,I was heartbroken as I had asked santa for leeds strip away , yellow with blue and white stripes on sleeve, my dad said some german kid called adolph schmitt probably had my leeds team and santa was a fool

forgot about my scoreboard!

and i used to do full league programmes on my own. me versus me. was funny, but sometimes the team i wanted to win didn't necessarily prevail.

and i used to spend hours just practising at set pieces. swerving it round walls and trying to score direct from corners - you could bounce it in off the goalie's aris.
