My situation is that i have neighbour complaining that i play 'loud' music. I am at the end of my tether which is getting me down.

I rent a flat in a court which are poorly built with suspended floors and paper thin walls. I am starting to creep about my home like a freak.

Any way i don't like being labelled as loud music chav, i have never played loud music in my life, all i do is have the radio,tv and pc on. I have even put the pc sound thningy off of the ground to stop any possible floor vibration.I have checked with every other neighbour in my building (10 people not including the**) and they have never heard me play loud music. My next door neighbour have a 6 month old baby so they could be the first to complain.

I have a letter from the council, landlord and the residents committee telling me that complaints have been made. I really object to being falsely labelled as a person who plays 'load' music, i find it a personal insult. I am considerate neighbour who never puts the washing machine on in the evening etc.

I am about to take legal advice but i feel it may be a waste of money. I am inches away from bashing my neighbour up but i know that will only work against me in the long term.

Call them inside to listen at level acceptable to them, then go round with them to their place to hear the level. Repeat with your listening levels if different. Easy

Report Ibrahima Sonko • December 19, 2009 9:29 AM GMT
Yes, thinking of moving but its really central to the town i live in so i hardly use my car. I have invited him in once before and he told me it was loud, then i thought ffs, i could only just hear it and i have just had one of my ears cleaned :p

I was looking for more of a legal angle, where i have been falsely accused of something.

I had a letter stating that my neighbour complained that i played loud music during the day and night, i work during the day so either someone is breaking into my home or he is a lying.

Is he below you in a block? Maybe some big fat underlay might help if you can fit it easily. If he's just being a tw@t then go and buy a pair of 6 foot Wharfdale's and a monster sub woofer.

Report silverwasp • December 19, 2009 5:41 PM GMT
Start playing loud music and give him something proper to complain about.
Report Fenway • December 19, 2009 5:45 PM GMT
Could you get the other people in the building to support in writing your assertation that you do not play loud music?
Report bigH • December 19, 2009 5:45 PM GMT
easy option - get some wireless headphones £30

difficult option - employ solicitor, court case, move house etc etc etc £'000's
Report Dan Chipowski • December 19, 2009 5:47 PM GMT
You're in a no win situation here really. Landlords/Courts etc always find in the favour of the crank making the complaint.

My brother had a neighbour who complained about his fking dog barking so he had to get rid of it. Even went to court. The neighbour's car was smashed up a week later, in an unrelated incident :)

there are two ways to go, you seem already set on defense and just want people to agree

the best advice you have been given is get him round and discuss the problem, look at speaker positions, see it from his side, and try and solve it as posted above

anything else is going to be total hassle and probably will cost you money somewhere along the line

drop the macho image and get real

failing that shoot the cvnt in the face

Don't the council send people round with meters to record the decibel level?
I've deffo seen people do that job on a documentary.
If so ,you've got no worries.

Does this mean you are actually taking legal advice on Mon or Tue and does it mean that you are actually going to bash your neighbour tonight because he has complained that your music is too loud.?

or is the 'I am about' and 'inches away' comments just throw away lines designed to spice up your story and big yourself up.?

Chit Chat demands the truth, let's have it pongo.

you can get accoustic paint. it is not so expensive for a small area like a flat, (£100 max). paint the floor and that is more than as far as you should go.

From a legal perspective, put your case in reply to the LA and make them an offer to measure your noise level stating htat you are supermely confident that the level is acceptable. Also state that you request they advance any procedure that they may have to this point as you will take a dim view of a string of standard warning letters that will be in ignorance of your initial reply. Aso advise that a failure act in a manner that is deemed a burden on your time will be subject to a claim or counter claim for your time and expense in dealing with the matter in such a case. Advise that you wil initiate legal action against the council for faiure to apply diligence in the case if it so burdens yuor time or expense. Take a letter to each of your other neighbours to sign to state that they have no agreement with said complaint and pass this to the council.

You should, (council t0ssers permitting), put this to bed quite quickly.
